Upgrade Advice Requested

I am currently running an Athlon 64 2500+ Barton. Is it worthwhile to upgrade to the Athlon 64 3000+?

I am a heavy game user, and want to better prepare for upcoming titles.

Other specs:

Asus A7N8X Deluxe using onboard Soundstorm audio
1 Gig Kingston HyperX PC2700
GeForce 6800


I was leaning towards getting this with an NForce 3 250 mobo

i havent used a 754 socket, so i dont know how well they overclock, but if you can stretch to a 3000+ Winchester core with a asus a8v (personal fave, good overclocking ) you may get significantly higher performance, because they are so easy to get to 2.5-2.6ghz without special cooling.
however, i dont know what the price premium for 939 is, so it may not be for you

REGARDLESS, yes it is worth upgrading from a 2500+ for gaming to an a64

Last I checked, the price for a 939 AMD 64 3000+ on Newegg is $160. The price drops daily bringing A64 ever closer to the likes of a peon like me.
