I am a student and since money is tight, I will only be able to spend about £150 - £200 max (only ~ $200 as its more expensive here). The upgrade must last me until early-mid 2004 when I plan to upgrade my graphics card and hopefully later that year I can splash out on a newer system. However, I am looking to upgrade before late Jan-early Feb.

So what should I upgrade in the following system? I would like it to be quicker generally, I play a few games like GTA3 (runs smoothly now), watch DivX's, listen to music and do a little bit of image/video editing.

Main specs are:
Duron 800 @ 880 MHz (220FSB)
Ali-MagiK (1647) chipset mobo (Upto Athlon Xp 2600+)
512MB 266MHz Crucial DDR @ 220Mhz
Quantum LM Plus 30GB 7200rpm HD
Leadtek 32MB GeForce2 GTS
SB Live 1024
Labtec 4.2 Speakers
Hansol 920P 19" monitor

I was figuring that I would get a Athlon XP 2400+ and a 80GB HD. Would this be sufficient?

What do you suggest I upgrade? The boost must be significant.

thanx in advance. :)

everything is decent in that rig. i would spent like 90 bucks for an athlon 2100, and another 120 for a ti4200

Yes. Absolutely. You'll notice a big improvement with these two things. Good luck. :)

I agree a 2100 would be a good upgrade but his GF2 should still be serving him well. If he needs/wants better graphics he may as well wait 3 or 4 more months then buy a full 4600 or low end NV30(31) when they're out.

any Athlon XP is worlds better than a Duron 800 and the GTS definitely plays well still..get an Athlon and continue saving ..unless you have filled up that 30GB..;)
