well, you would see a pretty good image quality increase, and yes the ti4200 should have noticable performance improvements accross the board. But i recommend maybe a ti4600 or a 9500 pro radeon.

The truth is it all depends on what games you play and how fast your CPU is etc.
In some games you will see no difference at all in speed - well unless you can actually detect a couple of FPS.

If you have a buyer or a use for your GF3 card then perhaps it would be worthwhile - I've never yet upgraded a card and really felt that the extra money was well spent.

I recently went from a GF2 Pro (at Ultra speeds) to a Radeon 8500 (which impressed me!) and also a GF4 Ti 4200 (which did not impress me as much as the Radeon).

I managed to sell on the GF2 Pro so it was not a bad deal for me :)

I just replaced a Gainward 128mb Ti 200 running at 250/540 with an Asus V8420s (has 3.3ns BGA memory, default 260/550). I have the new card running at 333/650 (I put a cpu cooler on the gpu, as I did with the Ti 200). What the other guys said is very true - it depends on the particular game and your expectations. MOHAA and SOF2 run much better at higher resolution and high detail. Quake 3 benefits from the clock increase. Some D3D games, like NFS HP2, won't improve much at all. I sold my GF3 for $60 and paid $145 for the GF4, so it wasn't a huge investment. I wouldn't want to go back to the GF3 now. :)

Exactly...I recommend the Gainward ti4400, which gets to ti4600 speeds without breaking a sweat.

Wow I did the same exact thing, loafbred! I had a Gainward 128mb Ti 200 overclocked also (Golden Sample, right? ;)) And I recentely upgraded to Asus V8420s (BGA ram).

i don't think that's a worthwhile upgrade. i think you should only upgrade your videocard when you can at least double the performance that you currently have. the ti4200, or 4400 for that matter, won't do that for you. videocards are too expensive to upgrade all the time. wait for something better.
