Upgrade 6 year old PC

Okay guys I have an older machine that has a P4 @ 3.0 GHZ. It has 512 MB DDR 400 MHZ RAM and a 5200fx. At the time it was top of the line, but now I feel like shooting myself whenever I try using it. Correction, shooting myself repeatedly. I am thinking about upgrading it to 2 gigs ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...?Item=N82E16820146310 and a 8600 gt http://www.newegg.com/Product/...?Item=N82E16814121223. The proc is pretty good if you ask me and there is nothing I can replace it with anyway. The problem comes at cooling. The single 80mm fan is placed in the back directly over the CPU to suck out the cause of most heat. What bother's me is the new card. I plan to upgrade the 80 mm fan http://www.newegg.com/Product/...?Item=N82E16835999111 and place the thermal sensor near the GPU. The GPU faces away from the single fan, pushing heat towards the bottom of the case (80mm fan near middle). Will my new cooling suffice, if pulls out tons of air. There are some vents in the front and the side of the case, since there is only one fan, but it's not an exhaust, just place for air to come in so the fan can push it out, kind of line a vacuum.

Thanks,

Anish

BTW I just built a new gaming rig and I will spend about $200 upgrading this just to be able to run intensive apps again. You may be thinking you don't need a better vid card, but I do some HD editing, and since the new PC is connected to the new HD TV, everyone gets annoyed because no one can use the TV. If cooling isn't adequate, then I'll just buy the RAM.
