have just upgraded my 700megahertz computer to winxp from win98 and now it cannot find the soundcard or the video card or the network card, plus now the computer runs really slowly, any help would be greatly appreciated.TIA

Did you upgrade from 98, or did you format and install XP? What type of comptuer is this? It sounds like you need to install some drivers.

upgraded from win98 and the puter is a hotch botch I inherited, don't think it has the power to handle XP,wot ya reckon I format and re-install 98?TIA

You most likley don't have enough of everything. proccesor speed, memory and graphics.
Windows xp needs atleast 128 meg of ram to evan run at all.
It is also graphics intensive and needs lots of graphic memory.
If you dont have a good 32 meg card your gonna run like a turtle.
Post more system details so folks can help you out alittle better.

More thoughts. did you run the compatablity program from the xp cd first ?
It would have told you what was going to work and what was not.
Try uninstalling xp and start again useing the cd to check your system.
XP has a ton of generic drivers preloaded just for the purpose of upgradeing.
You say it didn't see your video card but it must of or you would be looking at a black
screen. it used a generic driver. you need to get the oem driver from the manufacturer.
Then you should be ok. most older nic cards are plug n play and xp should have
no problem with them. as far as the sound card, thats another thing all together.
Sound cards need origanl oem drivers most of the time.
Don't give up. it may take some work but you should be able to getxp to run decent.
Increase your system memory to at least 128 meg, 256 if possible.

His machine should be sufficient to run XP, as long as he has enough RAM. 128MB is the bare minimum. I installed XP on my Dad's C466 machine and it's fine with 192MB of RAM and a 16MB vid card (he doesn't even need 3d).
