Upgrade? 2.6c to what?

My rig is in my sig.

I RMA'd a 6600gt from zipzoomfly, so I have a $226 credit there. If I buy something from them, I dont have to pay a restocking fee on the 6600gt. If I just get cash back, I loose %15.

Is it worth it to go from my 2.6c @ 3.1 to either an AMD64 socket 754 setup, or perhaps a 3.2ghz prescott? Maybe a 3.0 northwood and overclock it?

I wouldnt really want to spend more than $250 (226 credit + 24 cash).

Another idea is to sell my cpu and motherboard, and add that to the credit I have.

I play Americas Army, and HL2. My current computer runs them both great. Besides gaming I just do homework, internet, etc.

The only reason I am considering upgrading, is because I dont want to eat the 15% from the RMA. (Cheap college student).

I don't think so...I just went from a 2.6@2.6 running on a 865 chipset to a MSI Neo 2 Plat with a 3200+ and I don't "feel" anything. My synthetic scors are higher, but I really don't feel like I'm running a faster machine.

Thats what I was afraid of. Are you running stock or overclocked?

I was thinking of a 3400 and DFI lanparty, overclocked... you guys think I would notice much of a difference then?

What about a 3.2 p4 overclocked? Would either option overclocked "feel" any different?

To me it looks like you have 2 choices.

1. Get the 3400 & the DFI mobo
2. Get your money back - 15%

If it were me I'd go opt# 1 or get a 15k scsi drive.

Regards,
Jose
