Upgeaded Vaio VGC-RA840G need TV card drivers

as the topic says, I recently upgraded the 32-bit Media Center 2005 OS to Vista Ultimate 64 bit. Things are going smoothly, and those that aren't are fixable.

the only problem is I can't find drivers for the TV Tuner card. I tried calling Sony and they were absolutely no help at all. they told me to go on their site and get the software update for the tuner, which does me no good since I don't even have the drivers. I downloaded a pack of drivers for the card online but the device manager will not let me add the driver. I've pointed it at the folder but to no avail.

I'm kind of at my wits end with this, since I really want the TV Tuner working again, but I can't seem to find anyone who has got it working, even less so in 64 bit.

You might be SOL. That machine predates Vista, and popular 64bit computing. You might have better luck with Vista32.

Sony ended driver support for their GigaPocket MPEG RealTime encoder board with Windows XP Pro...that was the last driver they wrote. Like lxskllr said; you're SOL getting that card to work. Since you're limited to PCI slots; a very good option that's compatible with Vista and 7 is the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1600.

I see. that is the conclusion I drew from my fruitless search the past few days. also, thanks for the heads up on the Hauppauge. I'll definitely check it out, but I have to double check the port. I remember the Giga Pocket being really tiny, and I hav to make sure the HVR will fit.

If you're doing analog, get a used PVR150 or PVR500 (dua tuner) from eBay, and then use Media Center or some 3rd-party DVR software (I use NPVR). The 1600's one weakness is its analog quality, and while the 1250 is alright, it's PCIe (FYI: this PC has a PVR1600 and PVR150 in it, running Win 7 64-bit).

But then they show it having PCIe and not PCI...so, um...what slots are actually in there?

If you have PCI and PCIe, a used 150 or 500 tuner would be good for money, as it includes hardware encoding, if you mainly--or only--do analog. The 1600 is good for digital.
