Upgarde to Microsoft Security Essentials.

Do I need to download that, or can I just run Update from within my already installed Microsoft Security Essentials?

edit: I am running 1.0.1611. Notice says 1610 is beta. Am I ok as is?

x2, I have a number of machines running this, would nice to know if it will autoupdate or do windows update etc

I dont think it will autoupdate through windows update. I ran it and it allows you to upgrade your old install. You don't have to turn it off or uninstall the old version. You just upgrade over. The don't even need to reboot after.

There is also an upgrade MSE when you click the arrow nexto to help in the top right. It checks for the latest MSE version (not the virus updates but the program itself).

Microsoft Security Essentials Version: 1.0.1611.0
Antimalware Client Version: 2.0.6212.0
Engine Version: 1.1.5502.0
Antivirus definitions: 1.77.137.0
Antispyware definitions: 1.77.137.0

is what i have right now

The download upgrade the core of the Security Essentials to 1.0.1959.0.

The definition is the part that keep coming through the Auto Update.

I did not find yet any info about changes in the new version.

I tried to use the upgrade link within the program but that said i had the latest version. I ended up downloading it from the site and installing on top of the current install and that worked.

thanks,

just FYI, on another computer i checked the windows update website and it had the latest version on there, so it upgraded itself from there. very nice!

Mine popped up yesterday saying there was an update for the software itself. I allowed it to download, it installed and there was no re-boot required. Win7 32-bit.

Well my parents have it too, but I locked them out of admin account for additional security, so i bet it is going to nag them to install, but they won't be able to do so.. they live in another city.
