Updating Video Card Drivers

So i was gaming the other day and crashing. So after a few things updated the driver to one that had been released 2 days prior and VOILA! My computer was gaming like a champ again (at least its better than I am) So I was curious, why is that. The game wasn't a new game and I am confused as to why the old driver wouldn't work anymore.
And to all those who are having issues remember for whatever reason updating your driver can be a quick and easy fix.

Drivers get currupt all the time. So sometimes you have to reinstall them. You didn't have to go with the newer drivers. But the newer ones may have fixed minor problems with the last release or even improve the overall performance of your card.

well apparently i did have to go with the new drivers because before the update my games would crash after 30 minutes to an hour of play. i am curious as to why this would be.

Programming isnt an exact science, fix something in this version and it may break something else. Next version may fix that problem and introduce another. Consoles dont do this because the programmers know EXACTLY the specs they are writing for, nothing changes.
