updating notebook graphic drivers?

I just go a Dell Inspiron 8600 with an ATI 9600 pro gpu - are there any problems updating to the latest drivers?
Ati says that notebook manufacturers provide their own version customized for their notebooks. Anybody with experience on Dell note books could you please let me know?

My gf has one (Inspiron 600m with a Mobility 9000); you need to download drivers from Dell, since they don't have "standard" Mobility RADEON drivers on ATI's website. Attempting to download drivers from ATI's website for it will simply give you a message to that effect.
