Question Updating my motherboard do I need a pci

I have an older PC and I am planning to upgrade the motherboard to a wifi one. Do I still need a pci the pci currently in there is Ethernet.

Huh? The new motherboard will have both wifi and an ethernet port. You won't need an older PCI adapter.

Are you saying your current PC is old enough, that it doesn't have onboard LAN built-in, so you're using a PCI ?card (not PCI-E) for ethernet?

Modern mobos include 2.5. Gbe LAN, and often built-in wifi too

You only need a PCI slot on the new board, if there are any functions the new board lacks, but that you have PCI card(s) to accomplish. Even then, there are a few reasons to try to avoid using PCI slots such as finding drivers if not built into the OS, the lower bandwidth available, latency, and general age of the PCI cards (nothing lasts forever). Plus a board with only PCIe slots, has more forward looking compatibility and options on where to put each PCIe card, for example leaving some space around the video card for better airflow.

OP! You should be specific on what you have. I.e. Model, Year, Storage, etc.

If the Computer is Really OLD, it might be that you need to buy or build a new computer since just upgrading Mobo would not do much.

Otherwise, if the issue is just upgrading satisfactory computer to WIFI, there easy and inexpensive solution via USB.
