Updating firmware on Pioneer DVD-U05s

Yesterday I received my Pioneer DVD-U05s that I won on eBay and I would like to update its firmware (the U05s is the non-North American version of the 305s). I have it connected to an LSI 20860 SCSI card. I am using the "Windows ME" startup disk that Windows XP creates.

If I try to run the flash utility I get an error message "ASPI Manager not found." I have LSI's ASPI layer for Windows installed (I'm using 2000) but if I try to install LSI's DOS drivers after booting from the disk, I get errors and they don't install. The only way I can get them to install is if I'm in Windows and open a command window. I get a message reporting that the install was successful and I need to reboot. I then try updating the firmware after and before a reboot, but I still get the "ASPI Manager not found" message.

How can I get the DOS driver for the LSI card installed properly, and how can I update this drive's firmware?
