Updating BIOS

I need to update the BIOS on my DFI mobo. The catch? I can't use my current floppy drive.

Is there a way to do it using the CD drive? The mobo can easily boot from it, and I have lots of spare CD's lying around.

Also, I'd like to fix my floppy drive. The light is turned on, the power is plugged in, the cable is securely plugged in, and yet it doesn't work. GRR.

Help?

Thanks,

Try unplugging and replugging the floppy cable a few times. They aren't pinned cables and are notorious for not making a good connection.

Yes, you can do it from the CD,.... just get your bios, awdflash and burn the CD as a bootable iso etc etc.

You could just use the diamond flash image to flash the bios in windows. For the floppy drive, is the light on all the time or just when its being accessed?

All the time.

How do I flash the bios in windows? Sounds a hell of a lot easier than burning a CD!

Can you elaborate?

I believe the Diamon Flash Image that you can download from the DFI site lets you flash the bios in windows.

If the light is on all the time, it means your floppy cord is upside down. Flip it around (on the floppy drive's end) and yoru floppy drive will work again.

I never knew you could flash the BIOS from Windows...you probably have to reboot and then do some tweaking in the BIOS afterwards or something, don't you?

You'd only have to do the same tweaking you'd normally have to do. ie load optimized defaults and then set the settings to what you want.

If, your bios is working fine right now, you can just boot the CD. Just change your boot order to CD first and it might work...
