No such thing as fail safe when updating the BIOS. There are *safer* ways. These are:
1. Bootable CD with BIOS update utility and image file.
2. Bootable USB thumb drive as #1
3. Bootable ZIP disk as #1
A. Be sure no other drivers are loading other than the basic DR-DOS 7 files or whatever bootable DOS you are using.
B. A bootable floppy disk is still an option, just be sure to format it and insure it is defect free before using it.
Also, on EPoX mobos, you have the additional option of the ALT-F2 method. You don't use a bootable anything. You put the BIOS image on a floppy disk (known good disk, just freshly formatted and checked) and press ALT-F2 at boot and it will grab the BIOS from the disk and flash.
