Updating BIOS - newbie question

I'm just about to build a new system but I did not order a floppy drive to go in it because I didn't really think I needed one.

I've read a couple of threads on updating the BIOS and they all do it from the floppy. Are there alternatives or no? I was thinking it could be done from a CDRW......

I found this on another forum, any input?:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 1.
Go to bootdisk.com and download a boot disk with cddrivers (unless you have a fat32 partition on you hd, you'll see why later)
yes it's an EXE but don't worry

Step 2.
Goto download.com and get a program called winimage

Step 3.
Load the boot disk exe you downloaded into winimage then, Save As an .ima file

Step 4.
(using Nero for example)
Start Nero and select Make bootable CD, then select "Emulate 1.44 Floppy"

Step 5.
a) For those without a fat32 partition on their HD put your bois update and flash prog on the cd in the "add files" window
(This is where the CD Drivers come in handy on that boot disk )
b) For those with a fat32 partition (I keep one on one of my drives for just such an occasion) place the bios update and flash prog on that partition. You can access this from dos even w/out the cd drivers! Woo, heh.

Step 6.
Burn that baby!

Step 7.
Boot up w/ the cd in the drive, brows to where you put the bios files and flash away!

I'll be using XP Pro. Does that make a difference?

No but the file system could if you plan on flashing off the HDD in DOS. BTW most MB manufacturers have windows based flashing utilities.
