Updating BIOS for AMD x2 CPU support?

This may be a silly question, but here goes. I want to get the Asus A8V Deluxe motherboard and install an AMD x2 3800+. Now I understand I have to update the BIOS so it will recognize the CPU, but if that is the only socket 939 CPU that I have, can I still do it?

Will the board WORK with the CPU (perhaps just not recognizing it correctly) enuf to the point I can flash the BIOS?

I've flashed BIOS's before, just not when the CPU has not been recognized before.

Ya know..I don't know. I have the A8V Deluxe and I highly recommend that you get it...it's an awesome board. I had a 3000+ in it for a while before upgrading to the X2 so I upgraded before installing the X2. I imagine it will work, but won't use the CPU correctly...or identify it correctly until the BIOS is updated.

Yeah, if it is simply a case of seeing the CPU as a different CPU that is fine. as long as I can get into the system to flash the bios. I just didn't want to get a board that I can't even get to the point of flashing the BIOS. It would seem silly to have to by a lower speed CPU just to get to the point of flashing the BIOS.

I don't think it will even operate an x2 without 1013 bios. It won't even post / get to the bios.

Once you do get it working, avoid the 8.35 (7/20/2005) Marvell Yukon drivers - they're very unstable.

My DFI didn't recognize my 4200+ properly before a bios update, but it still booted up fine, so I was able to update the bios prior to installing windows.
