Updating Bios---A Good Thing?

I have an older P2 450 and apparently I can't put on a larger hd without changing the bios settings.

I'm not in the position to really spend a lot of money at the moment. I've found a firm that was recommended by my bios manufacturer, Award, that sells a flash application. Is this the only way to get what I need. I'd like to pick up something locally if possible, instead of having to wait.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Bios type Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG
Bios Date 10/22/99
Bios ID 10/22/1999-i440BX-W977TF-2A69KB3FC-00
Chipset Intel 440BX/ZX rev 3

Thanks,

depending on the size of hdd you intend to upgrade to, an ata 100 pci card may be the easiest option as it has it's own bios & you should be fine even using a 120Gb hdd.

bacillus,

A big thank you is in order.

The pci card has done the trick, and I had everything up in running within a couple of hours. I wish I had the time to have ordered one of of eBoy because I could have saved even more $$ but the card I bought was less than the software I was first interested in.

Thank goodness for forums like yours.

Respectfully,

Jim E.
