Updating ASUS bios

Ok, so my dream system is up and running beautifully, but I'm pretty sure that there's a bios update for my mobo (ASUS A8V-E Deluxe). So, I run the ASUS update utility to download the bios file from the internet. It connects to the ftp server, and then seems to hang (it doesn't really, just no activity noticed), then returns in a few minutes with "file not found on server." ok....suuuuuure.

is it that I must have the latest bios version already (doubt that, as this is the bios version that came on the cd), or what? it's not critical at this time, but I always believe in preventative maintenance when such a thing does not cause other problems.

You could manually download the latest BIOS from this page, extract it from the Zip file and try an update from your local drive. The current BIOS version ought to show on the POST screen if you disable the Asus splash screen, so that you can determine what version you have now.

Try accessing it at a different time of day. I found that 5:00AM EST was pretty good. I experienced the exact same thing and went back a day or two later and got served instantly. Time of day is critical. Do it before all the other people get to work or even wake up.

OTOH, if your computer is working, you don't have to download the latest BIOS right now. Do any of the later BIOS's have fixes that apply to your system?
