Updating a Netgear RPV14 ver 1

I recently updated my router with a new firmware, it rebooted itself and it seemed to work. A few hours later the router stopped responding, I unplugged it then plugged it back in and it started to work again for another hour. I've reinstalled the firmware update multiple times shutting down all my file sharing programs, and disconnecting the other computers connected to the router as I updated but the router still needs to be rebooted every so often. I would appreciate any advice that can be offered.

Maybe try resetting the router to its factory defaults?
