First off, here's the equipment I have:

Panasonic SCHT05 Home Theater System
Apex AD-500W DVD player

The DVD player has "Dolby Digital, DTS, PCM out" though a digital coax line. I've plugged the other end of this line into the Panasonic receiver.

On the receiver, when on "DVD" option, I've set it up so that it uses coax for the D-INPUT.

When playing a DVD I press the "AUDIO" button on the dvd remote to switch audio tracks. When set to 5.1 AC-3 I get no sound, but if I have a DVD that uses DTS and has the 5.1 DTS sound track, whenever I switch to that I get sound from all the speakers.

What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

BTW, I just registed at hometheaterforums.com but evidently they have to check your username manually to see if its valid, so I can't post nor search there yet.

UPDATE: I set the audio output to SPDIF/RAW and it works great now. Thanks guys.

Isnt AC-3 and DTS two differently encoded streams? I would think that perhaps you shouldnt get sound out of the AC-3 when you're running it through a DTS receivier, try changing your receiver's input mode?

edit: I'm not an audiophile, and I'm not super smrt about this stuff, but just a suggestion :)

check your audio options on the dvd player to see what output stream is being sent from the dvd player to the receiver...

Yup, most likely one of the streams is disabled.

My DVD player came by default with DTS digital out disabled.

Took me an hour to figure it out.

Agreed. I had the same issue once and played around with the options and got everything working fine.

My DVD player came with DTS/Dolby Digital disabled for some f'ing retarded reason. Took me like a year to realize is. I was getting 3 fronts and 1 rear (both rears the same) until I got into the DVD player settings and found it was off. THen I went and watched all my movies over again and revelled in the sweet sounds...
