the DHD, MT4G are almost like carbon copies hardware wise so its no surprise the thunderbolt gets root so quick since those phones have been enjoying root for nearly 3 months.

Its confirmed, the TB has been fully rooted with recovery. There's a thread in the TB Development section covering it. Impressive, given that the phone hasn't technically been announced yet. :)

I certainly hope this wasn't the "Droid that will have an unlocked bootloader", or if it was considered to be such, that it wasn't the only one when considering the rumors.

I want a Tegra 2 (or other Cortex A9 dual-core SoC) phone with an unlocked bootloader.
I don't expect too much in the way of utilization of dual-cores in the immediate future, but development will find ways to really make use of all that power as time passes.

Though, that rumor may have actually been "a stock-Android phone", so... it'll probably be Droid 3, if I can guess correctly regarding Motorola's decision-making/marketing team.
