Yes for a friend. They want a simple website to host some pictures, maybe a very small forum and of course their own myname@mydomain.com e-mail address.

For $5/yr it was worth it, bought it for a co-worker (friend) who recently left the bank.

Who is your domain registrar (Dixiesys, GoDaddy, NameCheap, etc.)?

So you want to swap the domain you currently have hosted at Dixieys with another domain? That's up to Dixiesys, not sure if they'd be willing to do that - if they do there may be a fee involved.

I am registered with Namecheap, I would want to move mydomain.com to this $4.99 deal and use the space and bandwidth for at dixiesys for other things

At this rate, can they really survive? Even at $10, I don't think they have good margin. However, who can resist a price like this? ;)

If I have another domain to host, I will give it a try.

alm99 - Excellent choice of domain registrar, NameCheap.com rocks!

It is possible to have your current domain hosted with RippleHost.com but I'm not sure IF Dixiesys.com will allow you to host a different domain under your current plan ... and IF they allow this if it will be free or will cost you. Before doing anything else I would first call and ask them.

If they say it's ok to change your domain hosted with Dixiesys.com then sign up for this plan, get your nameservers, go to NameCheap.com's website, login and update your DNS nameservers to point to RippleHost.com and you're done.

very interesting approach. The whole hosting site is run on VBulletin...
Its very cheap, but Im not sure if he provides SSH/telnet access with these accounts.
Administration is totally possible without one, but it makes it A LOT mor convenient.

One thing to be aware off is this

What happens if you buy the 100Mg/1GB and hit the 1Gb bandwidth limit? Do you shut down the site or charge for the extra bandwidht - and if so, how much?

......

The site would be suspended until the beginning of the next plan.

We may offer larger plans in the future which you could upgrade to, thats not expected for some time though.

It depends on the user base. Most hosting companies hope that all user will not come close to their limits. Say a company has 100 users. Most likely, not all 100 users will use up their 100MB of space or their 1GB of transfer. Even if a few users came close to the 1GB, the others who didn't come close would compensate. Normally, when a user has reached the maximum alloted Transfer or Space, the hosting company would then charge for the overage or disable the account until the next month/billing cycle...

Cyberwings paranoia runs rampant! I've been with a $10/yr host for months and months now, with never a problem. Frankly the guy who runs my host sounds a little friendlier/more customer service oriented than this guy though. Wonder if he was burned a lot??

RossMan - Thanks, I hooked up with $5 plan and an $8.88 domain name for my son who has expressed interest in doing some web stuff. For $14, it was worth a shot. Appreciate you commentary. ;)

This deal beats Dixiesys.com silly, minus the random rude customer service at Dixiesys.com.
