Game Basement has posted a new article on how to use the high quality S3TC textures off the 2nd CD. If you have a GeForce or Radeon, you are missing something if you dont try it out!

Yes, I've known about it for awhile also. Put up the post for people that haven't seen it yet. BTW, this is a new updated article that just came out 10/17.

This is pretty new to me so thanks OldFart. Man the bad thing is I use G400 and I don't think it's gonna work on Matrox cards. If anyone has use it please let me know.

Rumors are circulating that the latest WickedGL drivers for V4/V5 boards have full S3TC support, that may mean that this will work on those boards..... anyone want to give it a shot that has one handy?

Sorry, the S3TC textures won't work on a G400. However, the Loki patch does look better then D3D even without them IMHO, not to mention it performs better for many people(though not Radeon DDR users for some reason).

Those are some sweet screenshots in this new article, much better then the ones in the last article GameBasement had up:D

Ben, the wickedGL drivers don't have S3TC support, they have a few options, such as "force texture compression" and "compression artifact somethingerother" which allows you to, essentially, adjust what and how much is compressed, i.e. you can find the best balance between compression amount and quality, so that you can elminate all artifacting

I, unfortunately, have had zero opportunity to do it myself.

I'd bet with about 99.999% certainty that those magic CD2 textures still are not accessible for the 5500

:(
