PC: Gateway SX2380 with AMD Radeon HD 7660D
AMD A10-5700 APU

Display: Gateway FHD2400

When I updated to 8.1, I get blurry lines. I have to step down in resolution ( to 1920X1080) to make things clear.

My normal resolution is 1920X1200, which worked great before the 8.1 update, using windows 8.0.

I tried following the instructions found on the gateway website, by uninstalling the display drivers and such, but I still get the messed up display. I also tried updating the display drivers from amd. I tried the old drivers too.

I tried different HDMI cables, but still the same result. I used a VGA cable and it seems fine, it works at full resolution, 1920X1200.

Interestingly (with HDMI), I tried taking a screen shot of the messed up display, but when I pasted it into paint, it looks good and normal (last picture).

I tried gateway chat support, but he told me to refresh or reinstall windows again, then reinstall 8.1.

Well I've done that already, this is my second time updating to 8.1 and it's the same result.

So before going down to 8.0 again, what do you guys think is going on? Is it the monitor? Why would it be fine with windows 8.0, but problematic with 8.1?

That didn't work. I haven't found a solution other than to drop down to 8.0.

If you tell the driver to ignore EDID in CCC, set 1920x1200, then hit apply, does it do the blurry lines (IE, not in the Windows resolution dialog, but in AMD's CCC)? Does it think it's underscanning, or needing to underscan?

Couldn't find a way to disable EDID. Scaling doesn't really seem to do anything, except to make the desktop size smaller(scaling @ 10%)/bigger(scaling @ 0%).

I have at 60 Hz currently at 1920x1080. Looks like 60 Hz is the only usable option because if I use another rate (and 1920x1200), CCC lowers the resolution by itself.

Found a fix for this problem today. I tried re-installing a number of drivers, ones that came with the pc originally and ones found on amd.

I then tried this beta crimson driver, but still no go.

Started playing around with the settings and changed a setting for the Color Pixel Format.

From YCbCr 4:4:4 to "RGB 4:4:4.

Then, some weird thing happened to the display, couldn't see clearly like the first picture, but could see enough to see blurry text.

Noticed the color depth setting had changed from 8 bpc to 10, changed that back to 8 and now I got the full 1920x1200 resolution back.

Wish I found this sooner, but oh well, I lived with the lower resolution.

Have windows 10 for a while now, didn't make a difference with the display problem though.

So I'm guessing, when I updated the system to win 8.1, the pixel format got changed somehow, but I never changed it myself.

Googled it, found this, though it's a different problem.
