 for this idea!

 for the MX-5 as well, even through you can't get the retractable hardtop with paddle shifters :(

Automatic MX-5 makes baby Jesus cry like Paris Hilton.

I miss YAGT in the OT.
There are more reasons to pull out YAGTs ... We'd really like to encourage a more mature discussion of all things love and relationships in the new forum, including topics that can get heavily moderated in here.

We'd like to open the floor to sex and intimacy related topics and issues, which can be met with ... lets say mixed response ... here in ATOT. This will also help us relax the moderation a little in the L&R moving forward.

That said, this is a thread about YACTs not YAGTs ... lets keep it on topic.

LOL.

I think that happens in the car threads too, but I guess I am in the minority.

I guess I'm in the minority as well. I voted for YACTs to split.

For me, its like, this is a computer forum first and foremost.

For ALL OTHER TOPICS, throw 'em in a big ol' pile that is ATOT. I am very much a lurker and read 10+ topics before responding to them. I check out my favorite hardware forums first then head to ATOT to relax with mindless "stuff" (no offense).

My vote is to leave things as they were (at least for off-topic).

Actually, I wanted the same thing. In fact , the reason my post count is so low (for the amount of time I've been here) is that I took a long break from this place to get more involved in a car forum. I still visit there quite regularly, but have been coming back here to attempt to answer some mechanical threads. I love this forum, but never really got into computers more than the ability to build them and troubleshoot. Which ironically, is the same as cars, with the process of elimination.

Unfortunately, the votes are not in our favor. However, exactly as the car threads have a majority of worthless responses, it is no surprise that the majority wants it to stay as is.

Edit:

Oh please, and maybe do the poll in both forums and do some averaging? I agree that the 3 separate forums was a bit much, but just one would get more traffic than I think people would realize. (I visited all 3 of the auto forums, so maybe my opinion is slanted...)

I just think the poll is worded in such a way that skews the results. "Get them out of AT" and "Keep them around" implies that ALL YACTs would be completely banned from OT, which I dont think anyone wants.

Which is their actual intention as far as I can tell, I just don't see how that would make anyone happy, so obviously the votes are against it.

I do too, and that's how it should be.

We're not a love & relationship forum, and what made ATOT great was the fact that people woudl POST such things in an off topic forum.

You get a lot less publicity in a separate section and no one really cares to answer your threads. You think I even bother checking out all the separate sections now? I hit OT up and that's it.

Before I would hit up GH and that would solve like a billion questions for people. While I could help people out in so many different sections, I don't feel like visiting 10 different forums just to help people out.

I'm looking forward to that trial of the automotive forums! Not only will be bring more car topics and car lovers to Anandtech, but it will be easier to follow the threads as well!

Keep it in OT. I have never been a fan of having a bazillion sub forums. I don't know of any forum software that does this but I would love to see a tagging system of sorts. When the thread is created the OP can tag it with whatever category it fits. It would still stay under OT but if I wanted to search for all Automotive threads I would be able to search via the tag. Of course this would require a working search feature.

I don't like the idea of a trial period. It's too easy to stay separated than for it to become separated. Basically saying that in my short life experiences, when someone says it's only temporary, it's permenant.

That's because I haven't been involved :)

Seriously, if we did the trial, we'd poll both OT and the temporary auto forum to see what users thought and we would absolutely reintegrate it was warranted.

I don't mind the trial idea at all.

I do like the idea of a separate automotive forum.. but I'd look at it like the "Highly Technical" forum, only for cars. I think we should still be able to post car threads here, but if someone wants to post a highly technical car question in the dedicated forum, more power to them.

subforum explosion again:|:(
are the people making the changes even regular users?
i just don't get whats going on...

Instead of focusing on new forums, there are other underlying faults with the entire forum format that need addressing first.

This seems like a good idea. I wouldn't mind seeing a few car threads remain in OT, such as what new, fantastic concept car is in the works, or a 'look at my new car' thread, but the more intense car stuff, should be relegated to it's own forum to get more mature and more focused responses.

It is funny how you have repeatedly asked this thread to stay on topic, but people just fail to read it or do not even realize what the topic is, or are just plain rude.

I would like to thank you for adding more poll options, and really appreciate the work that has been going into the changes here. I really hope that at least a test automotive forum goes through to see how AT can compare to the exclusive car forum I visit. I know there is plenty of untapped knowledge here that is waiting for the right "forum" (bad pun) to be expressed.

This something a lot of people have been asking for forever. The thing about YACT here are that there are so many fanboys that they are unbearable.

Please make a "car/fanboy forum."

This is how I feel as well. I liked seeing everything that was "random" in one place. I never to go P&N because I have no interest, however I did like seeing (and reading) those types of threads when they came up in OT. Just my $0.02.
