People like this tool are exactly the reason it needs to be split off from OT. Here we have a discussion specifically designed to discuss an issue. This fool comes in here, just like happens to YACTs in OT and posts meaningless drivel.

Exactly. It's like a plague and it must be quarantined.

I agree. BUT, P&N needs to stay separate. THAT was a good move. Kill the new L&R forum and bring it back into OT where it belongs.

the vice versa doesn't hold true neither.

well, not every post related to cars or girlfriends should be dignified with a mature response. half the reason why ATOT is so entertaining is because people make fun of one another. Make it all serious and we are left without soul.

That would actually be a good idea, except for the proposed titling. ;)

Exactly what the first reply says. This is OT. Stop trying to categorize it so much.

I don't mind the car questions, as I help when I can, but I'd love a car-only forum. That would be cool.

You know, YACTs deserve more of a thread than YAGTs. YAGTs end up with half bs responses that deserve to go into OT that are more for laughs. YACTs have more people arguing, brainstorming... yea even if the arguments are about domestics vs imports, at least you see people get into it.

YAGTs are just guys going PICS?! BAN!? TTIWWP or I'd hit that.

I laughed. A lot.

And I agree with his sentiment 100%.

Except if you take a look at L&R forum its very civilized now, with little to no flaming, or BS comments... If a separate forum did all that for YAGT, imagine what it would do for YACT

People giving helpful advice instead of flaming random brands? NO WAI :Q

Although on the surface it makes sense to segregate it, I think the forum would be better served if it stays here.

I liked having the automotive forums.
It was a nice place for the gearheads and semi-gearheads (such as myself) to talk cars.
I didn't like that the automotive forums that existed were subdivided though. If a new automotive forum is created it should be the one and only.
And for those of you that say P&N should be re-integrated, please take some time and read through the first page of threads in there. I think you would end up changing your mind.

IMHO, all the Social forum areas should be merged back into one. Off topic has always been about touching base with people and the incredibly strange situations they have gotten into with their wives/girlfriends/cars.

I liked the one stop shopping.

P.S. I understand as a former moderator of a forum with 100K+ regular users that it is difficult to moderate, that's probably why you split them up. After we "merged" a couple of topics (on the other forum) we went, literally, years with moderation problems. Changing something that people have years of time with takes an adjustment period, but sometimes it may have been ill-conceived for the ease of moderation. Our problem was the latter, and it got ugly. If a moderator or DerekWilsonwants to PM me about the situation on the other forum name and situation, please do so, I would be happy to explain further as I think it may help. Only Derek or a moderator reply, I don't want my moderation status known on the other boards and will not disclose it to anybody else, sorry.

Thanks.

I want to see an automotive forum as well. Due to the HUGE post volume in ATOT, automotive topics on the front page disappear rather quickly, making it hard to follow the car threads. It also causes a lot of duplicate posts on topics like new model releases, often because folks like NFS4 have an uncanny ability to post things 2 or 3 days before anyone else notices them. By that time, his original post is already on page 6!

I originally voted to keep everything together but after giving it more thought I think a +-90 day trial of an automotive forum would be a good idea. Let it happen, see if it takes off, re-poll people at the end of 90 days and see what happens.

It's a good idea. For example, I test drove an MX-5 today and liked it, but I don't want to start a thread in ATOT about it because people would call me a homosexual. But in a YACT forum, they'd understand ;)

 for this idea!

 for the MX-5 as well, even through you can't get the retractable hardtop with paddle shifters :(
