I see an ad for a 32 gig 3gs for 140 in a town 20 miles away. Instantly I call and I am on my way. When the guy shows up he claims supposedly the iphone "just messed up a minute ago" and then proceeded to try and sell my an old raggedy-ass 3g

Edit: ok here is his ad and his snarky reply, that is the only reason I decided to post the ad with his number. If you guys feel like leaving a reply have at it, no registration required

hell, i feel your pain.

I jumped in the car not too long ago to grab a 19" monitor from CL for $15 or so, only about 10 miles away though. Showed up and this idiot lady made me wait downstairs in the parking lot of her office building, in the freezing fucking cold, for like 15 minutes. She then comes down with a 15" POS... WTF? Last time I ever make a trip to buy anything off CL without a picture of the actual unit first.

Awhile back some guy was selling an ATI 4850 video card for $60 on cl. There was no picture of the card and the guy said he pulled it when he upgraded. So I made the 45 minute drive out there and met him at a parking lot. He comes up and hands me the card and says he's not sure if it works and I can take it for free and just walks off. I was just in a big WTF moment. Got back home and was surprise that it worked. Even after 3 or 4 hours of gaming it still ran fine and still is to this day.

here are my four experiences on craigslist.

1. 30 minutes in of a 45 minute drive, the guy says someone offered $20 more.

2. the guy posts an ad in the wrong city, but agrees to deliver the stuff. we're to meet at my place of business, but the guy keeps telling me he'll be there in an hour. 6 hours later, he wants me to meet him somewhere off the freeway with no way to test the equipment.

3. guy gives me the specs and price. i drive over and only one of the two items i agreed to buy is described correctly.

4. on the drive over, the guy tells me the equipment doesn't work, but that he'd let me know. later on that night, he let me know that he sold it to someone else.

i sure wish there was some kind of system like heatware for cl...

I've had good luck with CL I guess. Everything I've sold and paid for was what I was expecting. Actually, one phone did have more marks on it than I was expecting, but it was a good deal so I didn't care.

I have had both incredibly good and incredibly bad experiences with CL (I will post some of them in this thread if I can find them elsewhere):

1. As a "bonus" (i.e. I did not know it was included) in a recent Craig's List deal for a Mac Mini, I received a G-Tech G-Mini (320gb).

2. I see a listing for an iPhone 3g for $280.

I send the following e-mail:

I'll take it and I can meet you tonight with cash in hand.

Name the place and time (after 6:30 p.m.)

A couple hours later the e-mail exchange goes like this:

Yes, it is still for sale.
However, the price has changed due to popular demand.
The new price is $320.
If you are interested, please call or text me at xxx.xxx.xxxx.

This is not eBay. If you wanted $320, then you should have listed it for $320 (like you just changed it to).

That sucks.

Sorry man.

I got a ton of people that replied to the add.
I figured I can get a couple of bucks more. Wouldn't you do the same thing?

No.

I buy and sell on CL a lot. I do my research and pick a reasonable price that is usually just below the market value so I get a lot of interest. I then sell it to the first person who responds, will pay my price and can set a meet near my place on that day.

If I want to set a low price to get a lot of interest and increase the price based on demand, I post it on eBay for a penny.

What you did was not cool at all.

Alright,
If you can pick it up tonight - I'll meet you half way between the adjusted/original price.
You can have it for 300.
I'll be in the xxxxx area all day/night.
My number is xxx.xxx.xxxx and my name is Al.
Give me a call/text an hour before.
Let me know if this works for you..
Thanks.

There are a TON of iPhone 3g's available on CL for $300 being offered by people I can assume are actually willing to sell at the list price the first time around.

So, no thanks.

Alright,
I hope your journey is a successful one.
No hard feelings on this side.
Be safe. Peace to the world.

Thank you.

3. I live in the San Fernando Valley and work in the Westside (West L.A.), so, though I list my items in the "los angeles craigslist > SF valley" section, I list the "location" as "<my city> (and Westside LA)"

One day, I had the following exchange:

Buyer: "I am near usc can u meet me around there"

Me: "I can meet you today at the Starbucks on the corner of <intersection> in <my city>. I am not coming to USC."

Buyer: "Can u give me a lil discount since I have 2 drive out 2 valley cause your ad says west la"

So, because my San Fernando Valley ad says I will also go to the Westside, but I will not go to USC, I owe him a discount?

4. My cousin-in-law got the following e-mail regarding a CL listing:

Hi,

saw the Advert you posted on c-list titled - "Little Tikes tool bench
- $30" and I'm very interested in purchasing this however I am not too
confident if it's the same type that my cousin is after. Naturally I
want to make certain before I commit myself to purchasing it. Anyways
here is a video shot that I been able to copy from my boy's computer
VID1 or try VID2. Can you please confirm its the similar type and
answer back to me Shortly. Im willing to pay a little more than what
your asking for as long the it meets the video description and you can
reserve it for me.

Kind
Regards
Julie.

I think it is safe to open the videos, right? - LOL.

He told me he got FIVE of these from different addresses, different names and with similar, but not identical, wording.

Life is like a box of candy, I guess.

My wife just picked up a Bernina sewing machine for cheap on CL. CL is hit or miss, when you see something good, you have to go strike fast. When I sell stuff on Craigslist I always tell potential buyers when they phone or email, who ever shows up first with cash in hand gets the item; call before you come (live in Honolulu, most people leave 10-15 minutes before they arrive).
