Ah yes, the round-and-not-quite-square exhaust.
I was wondering when they started to put those in, as I saw them on a later model, and was wondering whether they were recent, or ever since they stuck the 4.0 in there.

Do you get the "emotional start" in the US? I would expect so...

It gives a pretty loud roar upon startup and I’ve tried the double paddle pull but didn’t really notice much difference.

I think the square exhaust started with the W205 AMG models. They are definitely distinctive and the AMG exhaust sounds fantastic in Sport+ mode.

Going to mod it any?

No plans to. I generally don’t mod my cars anymore, it just doesn’t make sense to me to spend thousands of dollars modding a car I will never track. It is fast enough for me as it is.

I modded my bike but those mods actually added value.

Its a nice car but I hate the exhaust. Not just the chintzy integrated tips (which are made chintzier by them trying to make them not seem that way by not just fully integrating them into the rear clip - see how you can see the gaps around the tips in the bodywork), as there's reasons to do that that make sense (aerodynamics, styling, and safety) and I think that can be done in a way that doesn't look chintzy (plus I'd complain just as much about all the fake grille/vents that is common now). I hate the pops and crackling that Mercedes did to make it seem sporty. To me its the equivalent of the people that buy subs and push them into clipping and act like that's a good thing/sound. Its basically the German luxury douche version of glass packs or ricer cans which are some of the worst sounding and most irritating things people do. It sounds good otherwise, which makes that decision even more baffling.

For you they make the non-AMG version. Problem solved :)

With over 500hp it is actually sporty....the necessity of the pops & crackles can be debated though. They are definitely the current trend though.

There's definitely ample alternative options and I don't ever hear the people that actually drive them even causing that sound so its not something I have to deal with thankfully. But then I also rarely if ever have to deal with glass packs or rice cannons any more either (the former because I moved away form the rural areas that seems especially popular in, and the latter because...I'm not actually sure why, probably police cracked down on it).

And certainly its not limited to Mercedes (plenty of others like Lambo and Ferrari seem like they've been going for that too which is a shame as the best sound a Ferrari makes is a long slow unwinding, its like guitar sustain and sounds a billion times better; but even the way those cars used to crackle and pop sounded better than the modern ones I think).

Gah, forgot its also the Harley note and is why people hate them (or love them) as well.

It only does the loud pops on decelerations in sport+ mode. I think it sounds fantastic but the 2019 and up models don’t do it due to tighter euro emissions and noise regulations.

I have no idea why anyone cares that the exhaust tips aren’t actually connected to the exhaust on many modern cars but some people do apparently. It basically eliminates issues like the dreaded Corvette misaligned tips. It doesn’t bother me at all.

F-Type SVR must really send you over the edge then.

Beautiful car. I'd drive it in a heart beat, fake exhaust tips or not, heck my car has the same style tips only uglier. Enjoy the ride!
