UPDATED: My cat is sick

I have two cats. One of my cats (Between 10 and 15 years old but very youthful but very lazy. Has always been that way.) has been acting very funny today. He is sorta lethargic except for spells where he goes through the house meowing at the top of his lungs, like he is in pain. He is vomiting (three times today & large volume) and breathing pretty hard shallow breaths.

At around midnight, I called the vet's answering service in a town fifteen miles from here and she paged him twice and called his home phone and received no response.

I then called a vet about 45 miles away. We have used him several times and he is wonderful. His answering service got him on the phone but he said his situation sounds as if he could probably wait until the morning. He told me to be at his office at 8:00.

Poor Tiger is so miserable. I hope he will be alright. I haven't had any sleep partly because of his meowing keeping me awake and partly because I am worried.

UPDATE: My aunt just informed me that he has blood in his urine. I know this isn't good. Sounds like his body is shutting down. He won't eat or drink. He just lays there and meows like he is in pain.

I am going to tell the vet this morning to do anything and everything he can. Forget about pricetags, we will pay it. Just make sure he doesn't suffer.

UPDATE 2: Just got back from the vet. The vet said I would need to leave him there for at least 24 hours. Sounds like kidney problems to him.

UPDATE 3: The vet just called my cell phone. They catherized Tiger. His penis was blocked with mucus and a sand substance. Once he got through that, he said everything worked fine. His Kidney function test came back abnormal. Creatine and another chemical were high. Doctor says hopefully since it was caught early, the levels will return to normal. 50 - 50 chance.

UPDATE 4: Tiger is home and doing great. He has some antibiotics to take but other than that, he is back to his normal self, minus one life!

poor cat...

On a side note, I now know I couldn't possibly be a vet, because I would sooner shoot the animal than have the owner calling me up in the middle of the night seeking treatment for it. That just seems totally bizarre to me.

Takes a special breed. Pun sort of intended?

I know I couldn't be a vet. Letting someones pet die in my care would devastate me. I was a wreck when my dog died this summer. Sometimes I hate being extremely empathetic.

Poor kittie

Could just be a urinary disorder like crystals or stones. If he is still able to urinate that is a good sign.

That was our problem. We were not sure he was urinating because he goes outside.

Will know more tomorrow morning.
