- 4.3" FWVGA
- 12MP camera
- 720p recording
- 1GB RAM
- QSD 8x72
- Android Gingerbread w/out Moto Blur
- Not the Nexus Two
- Front-facing camera
- A very improved keypad at that i must say.

Still heavy speculation on this, but apparently the source of the leak is a respected member of Howardforums and the 'Pro' is undergoing testing in the wild but disguised in the casing of another 4in phone. I know its a long thread, but several people claiming to be 'in the know' are saying its going to have an open boot loader.

While I intend to follow this, there are some things that I feel don't make sense. Moto's previously said that all their android phones moving forward will have the gimped encrypted boot loaders, I am uncertain what 'specific business reason' they'd have for releasing this model with an open boot loader. Second, while I despise MotoBlur with a passion, why leave it off this phone?

A possible answer is that the phone is more business oriented. The ability to load a custom boot loader and recovery image would give a business that ability to load specialized ROMs tailored for their users, with company designed versions or themes, with all relevant settings pre-loaded. Would definitely be a boon to companies who issue 'loaner' phones to field employees or reclaim phones from departing employees, they'd only need to flash the phone to 'company stock' and any private information it is gone and its ready for the next employee. The social network oriented MotoBlur UI wouldn't be the best solution for a business environment, the functional vanilla Android UI is much better. And will likely be much better with the arrival of Gingerbread.

Some in the thread of saying October for a launch, but that seems rather close to the launches of the DX and D2 to me, a few short months. I could see the Pro being the flagship launch vehicle for Gingerbread, which could also explain the unlocked boot loader(Google's influence), but still, awfully close to Moto's other launches. Perhaps it'll launch later in 4Q? If its real, anyway.

Some in the thread doubt its existence because of the QSD 8x72 Qualcomm CPU because Moto's been using TI OMAP CPUs, but both the Devour and CLIQ products used Qualcomm CPUs, so its not unheard of.

Think this is the 2Ghz Tegra 2 monster that Sanjay spoke of a few months back that he claimed would launch i 2010?

12 Aug Update: http://www.thestreet.com/video/index.html?bcpid=1459183594&bctid=557945520001

Moto CEO calls Droid X a good phone on video, but says its not the best. No video of the Droid Pro, unfortunately, but interesting.

When I looked up Motorola and 2Ghz I didn't see mention of "Tegra 2".

Besides I thought Tegra 2 was capable of 1080p encoding, not 720p. (Not to mention Tegra 2 is also 1Ghz dual core)

I initially thought that an open bootloader is particularly odd since it'll obviously be on Verizon, but your business theory actually makes sense (it IS called the 'Pro'). Companies could make custom-tailored ROMs that come preloaded with all the software they want included and have any modifications they would like (and remove the features they don't want).

Ok wasn't it the Motorola CEO saying that he "hopes" to see a 2ghz phone by years end?

A CEO "hoping" means almost nothing.

When I looked up Motorola and 2Ghz I didn't see mention of "Tegra 2".

By the end of the year, Motorola will be releasing a phone with a 2 GHz processor, Jha said. While the executive did not elaborate any further, another Motorola executive who asked to remain anonymous said that this new phone is intended to incorporate everything that is technologically possible in a smartphone today. It will be based on Android, and include, like the iPhone 4, a gyroscope and add an Nvidia Tegra-based graphics processor with full Flash 10.1 hardware acceleration. It appears that the 2 GHz chip will be an evolutionary step above the current 1 GHz Snapdragon chip.

Besides I thought Tegra 2 was capable of 1080p encoding, not 720p. (Not to mention Tegra 2 is also 1Ghz dual core)

The chip can handle 1080p encoding, but that doesn't mean the rest of the circuitry on the phone can(cost versus likely use). As far as the clockrate, Moto has had a very close working relationship with IBM in the past, it is possible that they are going to license Tegra2 and have it built on 32nm which could place it higher then the 1GHZ speed the part is rated at for its' current build process. Not saying any of those things are actually correct, just pointing out how they could be.

My only problems with this are the tegra2 being a battery hog and gingerbread still hasn't been finished and isn't slated to be till Dec.

Too much rummors to be worth discussing.
Give us a picture and it'll be worth talking about.
I mean its not like HTC, Samsung, etc.. aren't working on their next "super" phone right now.

Its tentatively scheduled for Q4 2010, so could come anywhere between October and December. The Droid Pro could launch in Dec with Gingerbread, or launch before Gingerbread and ship with Froyo with an upgrade pending. If it truly has an open boot loader, then they could ship it with Cupcake for all I care. :p

From what I could tell, the "confirmation" didn't discuss every specific point listed, but just noted that the overall wishlist package was surprisingly close. I wouldn't count on any particular single spec being dead on.

Wouldn't it be something if we started seeing "enthusiast" phones? :D We need pre-overclocked Droids with active cooling onboard.

Interesting suggestion in the comments there that the Pro may be an HTC Droid, not Motorola. Makes sense considering the latter's big lockdown history and the imminent Droid 2.

damn, seems like verizon is churning out a new droid phone every month. i remember when verizon was severely lagging in the smart phone game. kudos to them for giving me choices now when it comes time to upgrade.

They've definitely fully vested themselves in Android and are offering some of the best hardware out there. Just need the devices to be open so we can fully use them.

Information will be fairly scarce until the devices get closer to launch, as usual.

If it becomes incredibly popular, hopefully people flock to it because of stock android and raise awareness with companies that stock is the way to go.

I think that way about Sense. It's like different parts were made by different teams. Teams that didn't talk to each other at all.
