Nope, but I did the 2001FP hot deal this morning! Thanks GottaDeal morning e-mail newsletter =) Got some FatCash too (had to check FatWallet, ya know?) =)

I hooked it up to my DTV receiver the day I got it. Looks nice but prolly better with HDTV. DVDs through a progressive scan player was very nice too.. I almost wanted a 2nd one 😛

🙁 That LCD is soo temping...I want a third monitor...must...not...injure wallet more....

aarrgghhh I cant decide if I should jump on this deal or not 🙁 I really want 2 of these suckers, but id rather just have 1 widescreen LCD.... my UXGA 1920x1200 inspirion 8600 has spoiled me 🙁

well I took the plunge.... ive been wanting some of these for the longest time and $709 is the cheapest ive ever seen it for.... came out to $748 after tax.... hopefully the budget will allow me to get a second one sometime down the road 🙂

Wheres this 700 dollar deal... do I have to search or something... sure does sound like a lot of work to me...

Ross, the quality of the video input in WINDOWED mode (i.e. Picture in Picture (with the video being the small picture) is *FANTASTIC*, however the video quality when using the full screen mode from the video input is pretty bad. I have an LCD tv that I don't really like very much due to the poor quality, and this is even worse (though the blurring is *MUCH* better due to the 16ms response). My Sharp Aquos is probably 40ms, and in movies etc it's horrible.

If you're buying this lcd for TV, don't. The windows quality is fantastic provided the screen door effect doesn't bother you, I wanted to return mine at first but now I'm considering ordering a second monitor because I got used to it, and when rotating the 1200x1600 resolution is really useful for papers/programming. 🙂

Hope this helps!

Read the first post then visit the site listed in the sig. No searching required.

remagavon - Yes that helps a lot. What's the maximum size window before the quality sucks?

I wrote about a page dealing with this but I accidentaly hit cancel.. I'm too pissed at myself to rewrite it so I'll summarize 😛

The windowed quality is fantastic, if you've ever used a Picture in Picture on a TV set, then a comparison of that ratio of size to the lcd's size is adequate to understand how big we are talking about, basically about 1/6th of the screen size. It's only useful if you are working on the PC at the time, I wouldn't use it as a normal tv due to the quality when using a full screen, maybe if I didn't have a TV (I have a sony Wega so I'm used to that picture quality.

When using the Picture in Picture the quality is totally fantastic, it's akin to watching a dvd at 800x600, but the full screen quality is like using it at say 2048x1536, where the resolution is much larger than the DVD standard, and the picture is stretched out and bad looking. As a PC monitor it's very good, I'm decently into gaming (played in a counter strike league) and the blur, or lack thereof is refreshing for an LCD. The Anandtech review mentioned Halo as being blurry on this monitor, but I actually had a very hard time spotting it on that game, so as far as response time goes it's fantastic.

The screen door is really the only dealbreaker for me, and like I said it isn't even one anymore because I'm used to it now. It is not as benign as the trinitron lines holding the grill to the surface (on FD CRT monitors) but it is definately bearable once you get used to it. You really won't understand what I'm talking about until you get it. But I didn't like it at first, and am now considering a second, so that might put things into a bit of perspective.

But do NOT buy this monitor for sole TV watching, try to find a cheap HDTV or something or if space is a concern maybe an LCD TV but I really don't like those to begin with. If you've seen one in the same store as even a good Tube television (wega) or even a HD set, then magnify that difference by maybe 2 or 3 times, you'll get what this monitor puts out. It isn't as bad as a really old television but I would not want to use it much for that purpose.

HTH 🙂

me too.. except the i got rid of the 8600 and got a d800.. thats the sweetest screen so far for me..

I hook my camcorder to the 2001 rca in.. its not bad..

All this talk of bad image quality, screen-door affect, blurring in Halo has scared the hell out of me.

My Hitachi Superscan 21" doesn't have any problems except being big and hot. I want an LCD with the same visuals but small 🙁.

I can't tell you about Halo or any other video games because I don't play them, but in case it's any comfort, Tom's Hardware said about the 2001fp, "Impressive! Of all the monitors tested, this is the one that displays movies the best."

I bought three of them last year to use for showing movies at international film markets and have gotten nothing but compliments about them. They're not as big as the plasma displays that most other people have at these events, but they're a whole lot easier to ship.
