The new iPod mini's are now $199 (£139) and have an 18 hour battery life. They are available in 4 or 6Gb.

iPod photos are now at $349 (£249) with a 15 hour battery life.

Regular iPods still start at $299 (£209).

I think the revamp of the mini makes them seriously competitive price-wise now.

enjoy.

Edit: yeah they got rid of the gold coloured mini, too...

6 gigs and 18 hours (assuming it gets that much) is a hell of an upgrade over the 4 gig and 8-10 hours the current mini's get for the same price.

I'm impressed. And there still isn't a better UI out there IMHO.

I agree. Ive gotten to play with a few other brands and am always satisfied with my 3g ipod purchase...

Its good to hear that they are finally moving into longer battery life. I couldn't imagine getting less than 15hrs on my DellDJ.

Obviously its better but still not quite up to par for the $. Just shows you how greedy apple is.

Ahh, anyone else read some of the fine print?
# The dock is no longer included with any model of iPod.
# The FireWire cable is no longer included with any model of iPod except for the existing 4G 20Gb.
# The AC adapter is no longer included with the iPod mini.
# The A/V cable is no longer included with the iPod photo.

Jerks.

I don't agree totally with gurck but apple is as simple as marketing a flashy looking player and making people believe they are getting an outstanding product. It's obviously working for the most part. I find if you know how to research a product and are not fooled by flashy "hip" fads, then you will not choose an iPod.

The firewire cable I can kind of understand. USB is just a lot more common/popular.
But no AC Adapter with the Ipod mini? WTF? So they FORCE you to charge through USB or make you pay $30 for a charger? Fsck that!

I have been waiting to buy an mp3 player when there is a reasonably price one with a UI that's comperable to the iPod, or until the iPod is reasonably priced. This looks like a step in the right direction.

$249 -> $199? that's pretty impressive. If you factor in the ac adapter at $30(?) you still come about ahead. The mini never came with the firewire cable in the first place.
I have a 3g, going to wait for the 5gen to upgrade.

Quoted for the people who suddenly think its a great deal.

btw: Take a look at this. I have one and payed about $350 shipped. 20gig, music, movies, pictures, AV output to RCA for TV hookup, built-in compact flash drive, almost exactly the same size as the iPod.

if your not interested in the extra cash for the features then I hear the zen touch is great too.
