*UPDATE: 9/26 2:12AM CST*

Lan party at my house! WOOOOOOO!
:beer: :beer::beer::beer: :beer::beer: :beer::beer: :beer::beer: :beer:

**UPDATE: 9/25 3:31 CST**

I've been tracking the voting by subscribing to the public RSS feed in Google Reader, and searching for, "@UGM Vote *" (*= #'s 1-10) and by my count I'm only up by about 15 votes.

The contestant in second place has launched a big push for votes, and is getting about 8 votes/hour! At this rate I'll be passed up well before the midnight pacific time deadline.

Please, if you haven't voted yet, and can spare 1 minute follow the instructions below to help. Thanks to those who have already voted, the support from AT has been amazing, but there is more you can do. If you could all find a spouse, geeky co-worker, child, sibling, parent, or anyone else, and get them to vote I would win for sure!

I can't say thanks enough, I'm so close I can taste it!
---------------------

Hello everybody. It's been a while since I've been very 'active' on ATOT, one of the reasons is I've been hanging out on Leo Laporte's TWiT network trying to win his "UGM' contest (Ultimate Gaming Machine) that he revived over the past year from back in his Tech TV days.

Anyway, the contest asked for your most creative 10 reasons why you should win the computer. My submission was in the form of a (non-partisan) 'political campaign.' Out of several hundred entries, I was picked as one of ten finalists.

The winner is chosen by community vote, open to anyone who votes (one vote per person) on TWiT's "Army" microblog (free, no funny business)

Voting ends Friday at midnight (pacific time).

If you have a moment to help, please:

  • Type, "@UGM Vote 7" (to vote for me!) in the box that says, "Report in, [username]"
  • Click, "send"
That's it! Every vote counts, at the current rate of voting, the contest will be decided by fewer than 150 votes! I know a little ATOT effect can help increase that, and I sure would appreciate it!

If you want to view my embarrassingly geeky entry you can do so: Here

Thanks!

I can't find any info on the PC.

And that's way too much work for me to vote, sorry.

Ahh...I remember the first UGM they unveiled on TechTV. Was a beast back in its day. This one looks like no slouch either. The only thing I would replace is the sound card. I purchased the same card and while it is nice it has no front audio panel connector. I was sorely disappointed when I found this out the hard way. Now I have to reach behind the computer to swap between my headphones and speakers.

Either way...voted. :)

A set of speakers with a headphone jack owns you.

Or you could buy a long audio cable that can reach your desk.....
I have a cable that goes from the speakers to my the top of my desk and a cable that goes from my computer to the top of my desk. Now I can plug in my headphones or speakers from my chair, rather then the ground.

And a C2Quad? No Core i7?

A little background...

They started building this thing over a year ago, the final build out came just prior to the Core i7 Release. At this time, SSD's were just starting to get reliable enough.

The deadline for entering the contest was way back in February, and they have been dragging their heels on combing through the finalists, vetting everything legally, and setting up the voting. I had almost given up hope that it would ever be given away, but finally they are.

It has been a long hard 'campaign' but along the way I got to meet Leo Laporte, Ryan Shrout (from PC Perspective) and a lot of other TWiTs...

So granted, it isn't exactly "Ultimate" buy today's standards, but I think you could at least call it the "Penultimate Gaming Machine" and I'd be willing to bet it would wipe the floor with 95% of the desktops in this forum ;)
