okay, i tried updating to the latest bios revision (F6), but that didn't work, so i knocked down to the F4 (first support of the barton core) and still it doesn't work. the mobo reports it as an unrecognized 800MHz CPU. CPU-Z reports it running at 134 * 6.0 for a net of 803.7

i'm not sure what to do. at the moment everything is set to auto/default just to get things up and running

any suggestions ? i know it's not the greatest mobo for o/c'ing but it's what i got. i search around the forums and the was only 1 other person i could find having a problem with this board; other than that it seems to work.

edit: according to http://www.giga-byte.com/Motherboard/Support/CPUSupportList/CPUSupportList_GA-7VAXP%20Ultra.htm it is a spoorted CPU for PCB 1.x and BIOS F4 (which I have). just FYI

edit2: see my post elow about gigabyte's response

well it boots so that's a start

do you have mult contorls on that board?

see if you do and just increae the mult to 14 or 15 and it should be okay

basically you control freq by 2 methods:
there is a SW1 which is 100MHz or Auto. basically forcing it to 100 does just that - i verified it with new cpu as well
there is also a fsb control in the bios. it defaults to 133 typically. now somehow, you're supposed to be able to change this to 100-132 (100), 133-165 (133), 166-200 (166). the range is the range that you can set when the frequency range is set to the number in the parentheses (which is what the manual says). unfortunately my mobo only has 100/Auto (also, as indicated in the latest manual). i think that 166-200 is only available if the mobo auto-detects 166 is the fsb of the processor. i tried manually setting this to 165, but the system wouldn't boot. i suspect it needs to change a ratio/lock for agp/pci and thus why it wouldn't boot - keeping at 133 makes it happy. i haven't tried 134, etc

as far as setting the multiplier, it's ALL in a set of 6 DIP switches. i changed Auto (which defaulted to 6X) up to 10.5 and the system boots fine. currently i'm running at 134*10.5 = 1406.5 (cpu-z).

so ATM it seems i can change the multiplier just fine. i haven't played with the cpu voltage (which allows only a +2.5%, +5%, +10%), but i figure i should at least run it at 133*14 = 1862 (i think this is default speed for mobile 2500?)

edit: p.s. i have ddr2700 and the system offially supports 333

Well, it seems my mobo manufacturer doesn't care about providing support for a mobile counterpart of it's desktop brother. In any case, I'm posting this in case anyone else searches for a similar problem:

Answer : hello,
yes, because it is mobil processor for note book computer not suppose to use on desk top computers please use desk top processor on 7VAXP ultra board .

Question : I have an AMD Athlon XP Mobile 2500+ (Barton Core) that is not recognized by my GA-7VAXP Motherboard. It reports "Unknown CPU Type" in POST. I have tried F6 and F4 BIOS's. This should be a working CPU. Is it not recognized becasue it is "mobile" ? Processor part# AXMH2500FQQ4C
