Updated Firefox, now it won't open

[Q]

Updated Firefox version (downloaded it, installed) and I click the icon, it jumps twice, but never opens. Restarted, uninstalled it, re installed, same thing.

I'm a Mac noob (and I hate them) so any help would be appreciated. FYI this is my mom's Mac if you were wondering why I have one if I don't like them

What do I do to fix this? Thx

You need to trash the "org.mozilla.firefox.plist" file in ~/Library/Preferences

Close Firefox, trash the file, empty trash, restart firefox

How did you install it?

Did you eject the DMG once you were done?

Was the icon in the Dock pointing to the DMG?

I don't see that anywhere

Found it and it still didn't work.


I installed it by DLing Firefox, it had a .dmg file on Desktop, I opened that, accepted terms, dragged icon into the folder, and then when I try and open it, nothing.

I've deleted it, looked for everything Firefox I can find, deleted it, restarted, etc and still nothing.

Figured it out -- my mom's mac is on an older version of OSX, so I had to download FF 2.0

Huh, that is kind of weird that FF 3.0 doesn't support older versions. I wonder what it is doing that needs 10.4 or better (which is the usual requirement)

Did you call Apple? Why don't you just update her OS X with the latest updates? It's that simple.

Because to update from 10.x to 10.5 costs $129. Not all software is backwards compatible on OS X. Handbrake for example became 10.5 only with the introduction of 0.9.2.

Also, depending on the age of the computer, it may not be Leopard-compatible.

It would have to be a pretty old iMac for that to be true. Pre desk-lamp model.

Where did he say it was an iMac? I'm confused.

Also, there was a 700MHz and an 800MHz model G4 iMac, so it could even be one of those and not run Leopard.

Ah, when he had posted the second time I misread it, thought he had said imac.

Well, it would be a pretty old Mac that wouldn't run Leopard.

it would not be a new Mac by any means anyway, if it's pre-Tiger.
