Many knew that a new PS2 was coming out this month, but you can now preorder it from BB or OutPost for release on June10. It's called the PlayStation 2 Online Pack, and the price is $199 right now. Sorry for everyone that was hoping that it'd be the same as the new lower price for XBox and PS2. :frown: I wasn't able to choose a BB close to me during the order process, so I just decided to skip it, and buy it in the store on the 10th.

YES, this is a hot deal, because this is PS2 + Network Adapter for $199, which saves $20 over buying them separately (plus built-in infrared receiver for remote control, progressive scan DVD, better DVD-R support, and quieter fan)(and minus the iLink/1394/firewire port).

P.S. - a new version of the PS2, called the PSX(wasn't that we called the first PlayStation?) will be coming out early next year that has DVD recorder, TV Tuner and Tivo-like capability, and 120 GBHD. Thanks McDull@Fatwallet.

-----------
Update1 - I went to the grand opening celebration for the new Fry's in San Marcos (actually I went to San Diego store, but they had same deals). I went twice, and the first time in the morning the had the standard PS2, but when I went back in the afternoon, they had a palette of the new PS2's out. Needless to say I bought one (and an XBox since it was only $129) :D

-----------
Update2 - I bought the new PS2, and it doesn't have the new features. It is JUST an OLD PS2 w/ a network adapter included. It's still an okay deal, bc essentially you're getting the online adapter for $20, but you might as well wait for the new one w/ the new features.

Btw, in case you're not aware, you can just plug a regular computer USB keyboard into the PS2, and it'll let you type online (rather than using the *incredibly* slow virtual kb.

Sweet mother of Jebus!! :D:D:D You can go to EB and use their $30 mail in rebate to make this even sweeter!!!!!!!!!!! (you have to buy an accessory and game along w/ the PS2).

http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/ads/shops/createabundle/ps2/default.asp

Or get it at Buy.com w/ the electronics $10 off coupon (seemed compatible in my cart) .

Let's find the sweetest deal possible on the PS2 before it comes out! ;)

Anyone figure out how to make a better deal out of this?

Aw com'n guys...admit it. Who'd you rather submit to....Bill Gates or the largest consumer electronics giant (who, incidentally, DOES produce pretty decent equipment).

No BorgBoxes in my house, thank you.

Hey, Bill makes quality products. yeah right. Im surprised that there isn't a serivce pack for my xbox yet. to keep it from overheating with 10 minutes :). Then again, if a service pack comes out, it would probably disable direct3d like service pack 3 did, and we'd all have $199 lunchbox's.

Your loss.

What's the diff between this PS2 and the old one besides the network adapter?

From what I see, this deal is just a Package/bundle/whatever you call it of PS2. The old same PS2. Nothing new here. It's just a bundle deal. They been talking about coming out:

1) Hard drive for faster loading (d*mn it took it's time to load, hope this helps)
2) Network adaptor for online gaming (It is now out)

Other stuff:
1) Linux on PS2. (haha, wouldn't a PC be better?)
2) Mod stuff to by pass copy right protection so you can play "backup" of your games.

Now what I want is a cheap, reliable, and good stearing wheel for my car racing games. A cheap projector so I can project it on the wall for a realistic experience wouldn't hurt either. Is this too much to ask? :D

Also I don't think it has the firewire port either.
I saw pictures of the Japanese one and they took out the firewire port.
I'd imagine that they are going to be the same box. (well with differnent power supplies and other country differences)

You're joking, right? That argument started going out the window over a year ago. Now that there are decent games on the system anyone who says what you just said looks like an idiot. Why don't you look at the games instead of the maker. Oh, BTW, you do know that Sony is one of the big'uns in the RIAA... the people directly responsible for you not being able to download MP3's as easily as you used to be able to, and also the main reason why the next version of Windows, as well as having DMCA restrictions on all the newer recordable mp3 players coming out (so you have to buy a copy of each song for each device). Oh, and have you noticed that there are more and more CD's coming out that are uncopyable/can't be ripped to your computer.

So by your way of thinking... a Gamecube is the only way to go. Good doing business with you.

Hehe.. lemme help out Screamz here.

This is what he's talking about. It was announced back in April. The PSX unveiled not that long ago is totally different.

Hopefully, this will prevent further threadcrapping.

Yeah, this is just a new model of the same old ps2, with a few new features. They include:

Built in IR reciever and included remote for the DVD player (can also power on/off console with remote)
Better DVD-R compatibility (DOES NOT WRITE DVD-R's!)
Slightly smaller design
Built in network adapter
Quieter fan (my ps2 is louder than my xbox)
Firewire port removed

I saw a picture of the PSX and thought it was fake. Oh boy, I wonder what the Japanese which thought the Xbox was so big are going to say when presented with this mamoth.

You're forgetting the best feature of this new revision of the PS2: Progressive Scan DVD player!

This is my first hot deal, so go easy. =) I did list the features (cept I listed quieter fan twice and skipped built-in IR reciever for improved remote). I think it also clearly states that this is a NEW and revised PS2, not the original PS2 that many of us already have. This is NOT the PSX which will be released next year. If nothing else, I am letting you know when it comes out, and that's not on any news site (or wasn't last night at least).

Someone please figure out what the best deal on this is. =) I want a PS2 again. I sold the PS2 (and even my original PSX) that I got the first day they were out bc it was distracting me too much. However, now that I'm almost two months w/out one, I NEED 2 PLAY PS2! PS2, I cannot live w/out you! I'm sorry, PS2, that I have forsaken you. I will never do it again ... just come back to me.
