CBS EXECUTIVES WANT NO 'ANTI-WAR' STATEMENTS DURING GRAMMYS

**Exclusive**

Top CBS executives are deeply concerned that Sunday night's GRAMMY Awards may turn from a celebration of music -- into a giant anti-war politically rally, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

The GRAMMY broadcast, which is set to air live from New York City, will feature performances by Eminem, Sheryl Crow, Springsteen, Coldplay, James Taylor and others.

Word has reached network suites how one star is allegedly planning a dramatic anti-war gesture.

"I would hope the artists will remember they are on stage because of their music," a top CBS source told the DRUDGE REPORT Friday morning.

During this week's BRITS award show, Coldplay's Chris Martin yelled out to the audience: "We are all going to die when George Bush has his way. But at least we are going to go out with a bang."

The CBS executive warned microphones may be unplugged on Sunday night if live performances turn political.

"It, of course, is a final option [to cut the microphone.] But it's a very real option," said the top source, who demanded anonymity.

"There is a time for political commentary, this is not one of them!"

If they want to have their say, and are forbidden, then I suggest the artists boycott it. The performers make a statement, and CBS has only the cooperative attend. Both sides get what they want.

We'll probably have one or two quacks do it anyway as a big screw you to the execs, because they feel they're being censored

No wacky political hijinx from the entertainment intelligencia live on tv ?

Oh thats gonna hurt. However will we survive ?

But how am I supposed to know what to think without Sean Penn and company telling me how we should be handling our foreign policy?? After all, they are the enlightened ones and surely have access to and know more about these matters than those silly scholars, analysts, and other experts that the government employs right? 😀

Good. This should not be a platform to promote one's political views.

If they were worried all the artists were going to make make pro-war declarations, would they have banned it? No.

They just don't want to hear anti-war sentiment. Its got nothing to do with promoting politcal views (note the plural) and everything to do with promoting a political view (anti-war).

Andy

EDIT: Before I get flamed - that doesn't mean that

I care about celebrity viewpoints
I want every show to be a political stage

And what do you think the silly scholars, analysts and other experts we would be hearing from would say if a completely pacifist administration was in office? Administrations select those who support their point of view, not ones who will trash them.

It's their show. Their cameras, personnel, lighting, airtime.. I don't blame them for not wanting to turn it into an anti-war / anti US rally. The Grammys is about recognizing and celebrating musical achievement, and it should stay that way. If these artists wish to air their political viewpoints, which the First Amendment gives them every right to do, they should buy their own airtime.

That's true at the higher levels, but I'm talking about the guys in the trenches who do the real analysis work. Those guys don't usually change with a changeover in administration due to their highly specific expertise in particular areas. Whether or not they are ignored by their higher-ups for broader policy purposes is another matter. Regardless of that, obviously they have access to FAR more information than we or Hollywood ever do.

Do you guys actually watch the Grammys?? I honetly don't think that I have ever been able to stomach more than 30 seconds of it.

As much as these celebrities turns me off with their views of foreign policies,
I don't see how CBS execs can control what will said by the celebs.
I believe in freedom of speech, even if I completely disagree with their views.

It really has nothing to do with freedom of speech. If I have a TV show and invite you on... I can tell you what you can and can't talk about. It's as simple as that. If they want to talk about war, take it elsewhere.

Its not freedom of speech when CBS is paying for the show.

<Moby> Thank you for this award ... and I'd like to say that we shouldn't bomb Iraq ... feel the love! Be nice, and you shall receive in turn kindness and em-
<Chris Rock> (stands up in the audience) Man, shut the f*ck up!

😀

I fully back this decision to prohibit anti-war statements. You want to get on a damn soapbox and whine, do it on your own damn airtime. After all, you won a Grammy - you've gotta have money. Right?

I imagine someone will try and pull a Brando...especially if one of the more radical Anti-War artists wins.

I imagine CBS will be camping the squeltch button on the microphone controls. Better yet, overlay something else. Like a nice, soothing 5-megaton blast.

maybe the govt. should just stop the "artists" with French-sounding names from entering the country.
Avril Lavigne, for example.
