Yea, but didn't Intel adopt those marking styles from the Opteron series? :Q

I thought the AMD P-ratings were all compared to a Thunderbird 1.4 GHz CPU... I don't see how Intel's new naming conventions change that. ;) :p

That's awesome. The 3 Ghz prescott and the AThlon 64 2800+ will have exactly the same name. (530) That's great.

"AMD has always claimed officially that its ?P-Rating?, also known as model number, corresponds with performance estimate for AMD Athlon ?Thunderbird? processor at certain frequency with specified cache."

"an internal memo from AMD, ?since AMD processors P-Rating has always be a meant to position AMD Athlon products in comparison with Intel processors and since Intel has decided to give up their CPU branding based on frequency, AMD also has to move towards a new P-Rating system. It is mandatory in order to let AMD?s customers understand how AMD positions its processors. The P-ratings will be used from the third quarter 2004 and will concern only the Athlon 64 processors.?"

HA HAHAHHAHA! What a bunch of liars. Well, it's good that they admit it to their own employees anyway.

That makes sense strategy wise, even if it adds even more numbers for us to memorize. :p

I wonder how many different combos, of bus speed, cache, mhz and dual/single channel ram we can make a specific CPU.

It would be funny having AMD with 2 or 3.. lets say 590 CPU's and Intel with 2 or 3 590 CPU's. It will be a hell of a challenge tying to pick the best one... lol

Umm...it's aleady that way. AMD has like 3 3000+ and intel has 3 3Ghz CPUs.

a 2800+ exists in retail? I knew some engineering samples were made, but I always thought the A64 base was 3000+...

Hahaha...this is going to create more confusion that it solves if a 2800+ and a 3.6Ghz P4 are going to have the same product number

AMD should atleast copy it competetively ;)

Yup

I wish they would dump the PR ratings system; i hate it, but i can understand why they do.
It's amazing how many times i have to explain why that AMD isn't as slow as the clockspeed would suggest to customers :|, so being able to say it "compares to a 2500 MHz" P4 does make it easier, i guess.
