Three weeks ago, I pinched my pinky while moving a couch out of my apartment and into my house. At the time, it hurt like a SOB, but didn't really seem to be much more than a jammed pinky...definitely not broken, anything like that. I still can use it just fine.

Now, though, I'm noticing that there is still pain - nothing super strong, but enough to notice when typing, etc. I'm not really sure what to do since a Dr.'s appt (which would probably have to include some sort of scan, I'm guessing) would cost quite a bit. Any advice? How long should I wait until I force myself in to see a doc?

Is it swollen?? Can you see any sort of a bruise?

Three weeks ago? At this point, I don't think it matters if you see a doc or not. EXCEPT if the finger is majorly swollen and/or discolored. If you broke a bone, they'll have to rebreak it (it would've started setting by now) to align it properly and then the healing can begin.

What's the finger look like? <--wait, don't sound right. RETRY: What does THAT finger look like?

I don't see any sort of a bruise at all, nor did I ever really. It just felt like I jammed it - I could still use it just fine without much pain.

It looks slightly offset (like it's crooked at a small angle), but I can't tell whether it should look like that or not - all my fingers have some degree of angle, but its seems to be a bit steeper. :p

Well, despite the lack of swelling, it's getting to be more of an annoyance to type. Time to call the doc, I think. Wish me luck.

you might have a pinched nerve or something, if you have not given your fingers any rest it might still be tender since you didn't give it any time to recuperate.

I see the only solution being to cut the finger off.

;) Good luck at the doc, man.

Update:

I tore the exterior ligament holding the top two parts of my pinky together. It's splinted now (making it a royal bitch to type), and that is basically a medical cross of the fingers hoping that it heals properly.

That'll teach you never to move a couch when the moon is in feces.

Hope you're feeling better, soon. :)

LOL@NineFinger. :)

It's the first injury of this sort I've ever had. Never had a broken bone, torn ligament, or even a severe muscle pull/strain before.

I think I'm going to enjoy some margaritas and watch LOTR. :p

Oh, you are The Man. I just made myself a...um...LARGE Beam & Coke...and I'm preparing to...

ready?

Clean the bathroom. Then the kitchen. Then the living room. Then mop the floors. Then vacuum the house. I haven't cleaned in almost three weeks...that is truly disgusting! :p It needs to get done. If I post any more, I won't start. Hope you feel better. :)

I have broken my thumb playing football and sprained my finger playing rugby so I can say ive been in your situation. It will hurt for a month or two later or even longer depending on what you did. All you can do is let it be as there is no real risk and will do all the healing it can on its own. After its all said and done however your pinky may never be the same again. If you have any other questions my dad is an emergeny physician and I can relay a question on to him.

EDIT- after reading your post above I can say that leaving it will not do the trick : )

Here's a question. How bad will my pinky be if I only splint it 14-16 hours a day, rather than 24? I'm in a big PHP programming project right now, and typing with my right hand is a PITA.

thanks :D

Well, it ain't quite LOTR on a new Denon 3802, but it's not that bad. At least you have the JB & Coke. :D
