Ever since my boss quit 4 months ago at my government IT job, I've been very very quietly gunning for his position. My resume went in. My whole team made it explicitly clear that they wanted me. Today I found out when the first guy walked in that this was day 1 of interviews. That's right. I was passed over. The senior tehcnical guy on our staff waited till the senior networking guy was out on vacation, pulled rank so that the video and administrative people who wanted me in would be left out of the loop and I was never even called in for an interview for a position I applied for and have been performing for months in my own department.

Update: 8/22
Well, the next day I went into work and was told that I was being interviewed afterall. All was right and fair in the world. I felt great about the interview but in retrospect, I have a hard time believing that they'll actually hire me. Too much just doesen't sit right with me and they definitley made me tie my own noose on some of the experience related questions. Once they actually do hire someone, my hours (assuming I'm not hired) will immediatley be cut in half. This wouldn't be such a big deal except back when I worked that kind of hour load here, it was when I had another full time job to bring home the bacon with. People from other departments just assume I'm a shoo-in for my own job. if it were only that easy
<<< Looks at anticipated pay schedule, car payments, insurance payments, gas prices, cost of food, rent, utilities and AGAIN reduced pay and wistfully thinks of all of the alcohol I can't afford.
Update: 9/8
HR just sent out a mass message announcing that they ended the search without hiring anyone. They couldn't find anyone they liked I guess...
they also didn't BCC it. I now have a list of everyone I had to compete with for the job and I recognize several people I know professionally. What a shameful breach of privacy. I just left the HR originator an anonymous voicemessage pointing out his screwup.... but wtf man....
