I posted this under a different thread, but maybe it deserves it's own.. hope you guys get in on this...

Model# L01J100

Staples has it for $149.99
COMPUSA has it for $149.99 - $10 IS - $40 MIR = $99.99

I called up Staples and asked them to PM to CompUSA's price after the rebates. They put me on hold for 10min! but finally approved it. The $10 Instant Savings is from COMPUSA only and the $40 MIR specifically states that it has to be purchased from COMPUSA. So Staples honored both the discounts and PM to COMPUSA.

Final Calculations:

$149.99
- $55.00 (PM + 110%)
---------
$94.99
+ any of the Free After Rebate items ( i ordered the 50pack cdr ) to get you over $100
-$20.00 ($20 off $100 coupon)
---------
$74.99 + tax (free shipping)

I think this is a pretty good deal for the hard drive and I don't have to worry about any rebates.

EDIT#1: may have to pay an extra $8.50 for shipping but $83.50 + tax is still a pretty good deal.

EDIT#2: wow, this deal just keeps getting better... stuckMojo pointed this out... supposedly, the same HDs over at COMPUSA that were advertised as 100 + 20gb 2mb cache were apperently 8mb cache!! The model number on the HD is 6Y120P0 which corresponds to a 8mb cache. 6Y120L0 is the 2MB cache. I guess it just depends on our luck.

and here is a link to verify the model numbers, just go to page 2.

EDIT#3: Although the rebates for COMPUSA are expired, you can still PM to BestBuy's $89 AR price and use some coupons + shipping charges

EDIT#4 (2/25): Well, I don't know if this will work, but ET1201 pointed this out. Apparently the BB $40 MIR doesn't specificallly mention that the HD has to be bought at BB. So maybe we could use it for another $40 back which would make the total around $35-$45 total. NOT BAD!

This is a working deal, but most people (including me) will have to add the 2nd shipping cost from CompUSA $9. so the total comes out to be around $88 before tax.

search for the model # in both staples and compusa. It pulls up.

I was able to get 2 drives without having any sort of shipping added, though that was kind of negated when I added a $20 off $150 coupon instead of a $30 off $150 (I didnt have my glasses on and couldnt read correctly :p ).

Mine ended up being ~$183 after tax for the 2 drives.

Something just occurred to me. I bought this drive the other day at CompUSA, so I have a receipt and a $40 rebate form. Now if Staples will pricematch the after-rebate price, what's to stop someone from buying the drive at Staples and returning the original drive to CompUSA, but using the CompUSA receipt and rebate form with the Staples UPC and still getting the $40 rebate?

Don't misunderstand me, I think it's ethically wrong and I wouldn't do it myself. I've just never seen anyone suggest it in these forums, and I can't be the first person who ever had the thought.

The rebate company will disqualify your rebate because the sales is returned.

The rebate company does not know if a sale was returned. There's no way for them to know, which is why they require the UPC. Since the store won't take a return on an item once the UPC has been cut out, the inclusion of the UPC is the rebate company's verification that the item was not returned. So in the scenario I outlined, you've got a receipt and a UPC, and a pricematch, and a rebate. So what's to stop someone from sending in the rebate form? Just your conscience, I suppose. But that doesn't seem to bother most people this forum, considering how popular the DVD-copying threads are.

Everyone Deal still alive only a few changes

The change is now the drive is pricematched from Best Buy.

http://www.bestbuy.com/detail.asp?e=11207643&m=488&cat=511&scat=512

I know this works because I just ordered one today! Best Buy has free shipping on all items so Staples will match it. Pricematch price from Staples was 94.99, just ad something to get you over $100 and use the 20 off 100 coupon out on the web (search google).

Thanks for posting the first deal Compusa deal. Now I got in on that one and this deal and they should make a perferct raid 1 set for my server.

So staples policy nowadays allow you to pricematch items with store specific rebates and use coupons? i thought staples stop allowing pricematch + coupon a long time ago. Let along PM with reabtes. Is this a YMMV or has everyone been able to do this w/o a problem.

As far as coupons and pricematching goes, I did not have any problems at all using coupons on the two orders I just placed. I placed one on Saturday, pricematched from CompUSA and I used a $20 off $100 coupon code. Today I placed my second order for the same drive but this time pricematched against Best Buy and I used a $15 off $100. I had to add $5 items to both orders to get over $100. I just ordered office supplies I needed anyway. So basically I got the drives for $74.99 and $79.99 plus tax. I order both orders over the phone using the 1-800-3staples number.

Thanks for posting this.

YMMV on the pm to best buy. drive at BB.com is $149.99 - $10 BB mir - $40 maxtor mir. I just tried calling staples and they said they won't pm after the $40 mir because it's maxtor and can be used with staples too. they could consider the $10 bb mir but it's negated by $12 shipping for BB next day, instead of the free 2-3 day shipping. but that was only first attempt. it took more than 10 minutes of holding so I'm not sure if I want to try again.

Does that mean those who have already gotten this deal could send in for the rebate and get it for $35?

I called the rebate center, and the rebate is a bestbuy only rebate.

Stalpes would only PM to 103.xx (bestbuy charges $3 for 2day shipping).

Dave,

Call back staples and talk to another sales rep. I had the same problem on the first try but the rebates are only good through Best Buy. I called back and spoke to another customer service rep. She said they should of pricematched it and she did it for me, she even double checked with her manager to make sure it was ok. If you call back and they question it tell them to check the Maxtor website. There is no rebate available to the general public on this drive, I know I checked., They may even try to charge you shipping tell them Best Buy has free shipping on all items right now and if they don't believe it check their web site.

I hope this helps.
