Hi.
I unlocked my cpu using a super glue and extra sharpened mechanical pencil.
I made sure both bridges were connected and none crossed each other..
But it won't work....
As i surfed through looking for solutions, i came up with an interesting site that addresses this issue...
http://www.oc-athlonxp.com/cpu.htm
It says
"UPDATE #2: I re-did my L1 bridge work, and it looks to be perfect. But still, I am stuck at the 11 multiplier. My next option is to try trace tape. If this doesn't work, I will be left with the conclusion that the EPoX 8K7A+ is not correctly interpreting the FID signal from the L1 bridges.

It seems the German hardware site Planet3d Now! agrees with my theory that the EPoX 8K7A+ is not reading the FID signal from the XP's L1 bridges. Here is a snippet from a German readers e-mail to me:

"they say that it might be a problem of the FID interpretation of the mainboard because the XP has a different FID than the TB.

Meaning, what you assumed already, that some old mainboards will not interpret the multipler of a Palomino correct.

(don't ask me what FID is, I don't know actually but they say that it works on mainboards which have jumpers for the FID like the ASUS A7V266 and some other Asus boards)"

Could this mean that all motherboards that manipulate the L1 signal via jumper will not be able to change the XP's clock multiplier?

Could this explain why the Abit KG7 (uses SoftMenu) is able to change the clock multiplier and the EPoX 8K7A+ can't? I don't know.

I, obviously have only tested via one method (unlocking the L1 bridges) on a single motherboard with a single CPU and we won't know for sure until other people try the CPU on different models/brands of motherboards.

These questions I pose are pure speculation and I cannot stress his enough: PLEASE DO NOT ACCEPT THIS AS FACT ."

so.....
As i came up with the same problem, i started feeling that it was my Epox 8k7a+ mobo,.,

I have heard that there is a solution to this...... something like connecting an another bridge.... i read it somewhere today but i can't remember where it was..

Does ANYONE know about this.. Im so frustrated!!!...
Please HELP!...

Tom's Hardware reports that the graphite from using a pencil has too much resistance (>1k/ohm) to work with the new XP's. You'll have to use a conductive substance such as silver lacquer, conductive pen or defogger grid repair resin to make the bridge. I used Loctite Quick Grid Repair Resin on my 1600+ and now have multipliers from 6x to 15x on an MSI board.

Hey...scitex...
thanks for your answer...
I have read the review on tomshardware...
but i have also heard of people being sucessful @ it...
like this guy crushed pencil leds into fine powder and sprinkkled on the bridges and taped each briges....
lol...
I didnt want to be that hardcore...so i just used the mechanical pencil.
Maybe that is the problem....but i just thought it was weird that a guy with same mobo as me, 8k7a+ was having same problems...of not being able to unlock it eventhough he actually used a conductive pen.
afterall, it might be the mobo....

Does anyone else owning 8k7a+ have this problem?

I Found a Solution!!!...

the answer i got was from the oc-athlonxp.com....
The guy that was having the same prob later said in the ariticle that he had to connect extra bridges..
and in one of the links he gave was ocinside.de site,,
where it tells you how to change multiplyers via bridges, rather than motheboard...
here is the LINK:
http://www.ocinside.de/index_e.html?/html/workshop/socketa/xp_painting.html

If you are having smae probs as me, ur jumper mobo wont work even after u unlock them,
put in your deisired options and voila!..

I am gonna go home and try it tonite..
ill post results if i can...
