So I was paying my CRA bill...$400 some dollars...done.

Then I went to pay my Citi bill... $900...oh sh1t...

Paid it all to CRA

My bank says it will take a full month to get my money back, even though the money hasn't went anywhere, I called 10 minutes after doing it.

Sigh. Not good....leaves me very much more tight for money than I should be...

UPDATE: December 14/06

So...its been two weeks, no money. I fired an email to my bank asking what the status is on my funds...

We appreciate your patience with regards to your bill payment investigation. I am able to confirm that CCRA has advised that a refund cheque will be sent to us (BMO Bank of Montreal) in order for us to refund your account. Please note that regrettably cheques can take from 2 to 8 weeks to arrive and credit your account. I regret any inconvenience. I hope this information is helpful.

TWO TO EIGHT WEEKS!!! To get $900 back! FVCK! I need this money!!! That'll be a TEN WEEK TOTAL WAIT!!!

There is no reason that it should take a month. I would be on the phone with either the president of the bank or corporate headquarters.

One more reason to do it in reverse. Have the companies withdraw it directly from the bank with your approval (automatic or manual if you wish). No worry about bank fees or rules to keep it free. No worry about late fees. No ability to make that type of mistake. Etc.

Fixed.

Envelopes and stamps FTW.

Not having to worry about some computer taking double the amount or whatever is totally worth 40 cents a month.

thats just stupid, poorly made system, I cant even write in a number when I'm paying my bills

I just choose what account I'm going to use to pay, select the bill I'm going to pay, enter the account pin and I'm done.

It is amazing that they can receive your payment in seconds online, clear the funds by the next day at a maximum, and take 6 weeks to refund. Talk about some serious float.

Which bank?

Switch to Bank of America. Bill payments are held and transferred once at the end of the day. This gives you the ability to revise the payment amount and even cancel a particular payment.

This is a good reason I pay all my bills online at each individual site (citicards.com, mbna.com, etc.). Using bookmarks for each login page, it's not that much slower or more bothersome.

Kinda hard for him, since I haven't heard of any BoA branches in Canada.

Sounds more like they are suggesting that it may take that long for BMO to get a cheque from CRA.

I did that once. It didn't take nearly that long to get things straightened out.
