got a speeding ticket for going supposedly 79 in a 55. pleaded not guilty in hopes of reducing the amt of pts/fine. checked the dmv online and its supposed to be six points but if its reduced and take traffic school might clear it out completely.

can traffic school be requested from DA offer? never had a ticket before... suggestions?

update: requested a phone hearing w/DA and he reduced it to a traffic violation, failure to obey stop sign or something like that, 2 pts instead of 6! seemed like a pretty nice guy too. whew gonna take AAA couse and not gonna speed again for awhile... :D

If you show up for your court date, the judge will likely take off the points if you ask nicely. Otherwise just pay the fine, it's not worth fighting over the money. I pay out around $1200 a year in speeding tickets. Kinda sucks.

Just know that you didn't really do anything wrong, but your local government needs some money, and they selected you to help them out. :)

First time? maybe, but 79, is that reckless driving? hmmmm, depends on the judge's mood. If you do show up you'll get a reduced fine.

You were doing 40% faster than the posted speed limit. Suck it up and pay the fine chump.

What about the points though? That can cause you to lose your license for doing nothing wrong! It's not like he got a ticket for a #545 (Vehicular Assault of a Nun.)

24 over. You were probably going much more, and the cop was nice to get you out of criminal speeding and a possible sentence. Consider yourself lucky and pay the fine and improve your driving

Because the law is unjust, speeding tickets are just for making money, and we have to have this argument everytime someone posts a thread like this. :p

They changed the points again! Used to be 5 for 10-20 over and 8 for I think 21-30 over. Nice to see they lowered the points.

Edit: Noticed 4 different people got pulled over for I assume speeding today on the Thruway. They have really ramped up the patrols on the Thruway. In the 160 miles I drove on the Thruway today I was clocked 6 times.

Pay the ticket, dude, and stop whining like a child about the points. You broke the law and you accept the consequences, driving is NOT a right.

Where is this at? If you tell me it's on the I-10 before the Fairplex/Dudley exit, then we can fight this together... I got the same fcuking ticket.

Why? So you can fvck up the Volvo too?

Look, you sped, it was your own damn choice. Show up for the court date for maybe a lower point penalty or fine, but you did speed no matter how you put it so pay up the fine. Any reason you were speeding?

I'd rather you be a smart enough driver not to pull into a situation in which I'd hit you.

Since you already have a court date setup, submit a discovery request immediately. You can use it as a bargaining chip in court if the cop doesn't submit the documents requested (which is highly likely).

Ticketassassin.com

or Google it.

Walking into a courtroom to fight a traffic ticket with nothing but your own damn thoughts is pointless because the judge will ALWAYS side with the cop.
