UPDATE->WinXP: Right click on folder->Properties, does nothing!

When I right click on a folder on either of my two hard drives, and click on properties, nothing happens. It works for the root of a drive, and for individual and multiple selected files as well, but just not for folders. Anyone know what to do to fix this?

Are you running either ZoneAlarm or Norton Anti-Virus running? I've had this problem before and one of those two were the culprit, I just can't remember which one (I'm really thinking it was ZoneAlarm). Shutting the program down should allow you to get to properties again. Try it and let me know your results. In the mean time I'll be racking my brain as to how I fixed it.

I suspected it might be zonealarm and i tried shutting it down and it still didn't work. But the thing is I've been able to right click and go to properties on folders on my computer successfully as recently as a couple of days ago, and zonealarm was running then. The only thing that's changed since then is downloading more music and movies, and installing some random software (ghostscript) to view .ps files. I don't see why that would do anything as it isn't running at the moment.

You might need to try actually uninstalling Norton / Zone Alarm as I have found that antivirus and firewall software tends to be difficult to kill off once it's loaded....it still runs in the background.

P.S: Am running Zone Alarm + Norton AV 2003 at home...no probs...on XPP.

UPDATE!!
The weirdest thing happened (while zonealarm was running). So I had right clicked on several dozen folders during the course of the day and clicked on properties to no avail. So I pretty much forget about the problem and continue to use my computer into the wee hours of the night. So around 4am, at least 6 hours AFTER my last attempt at viewing a folder's properties, while I am programming (got my OBB/OBB intersection tests working), listening to mp3s and chatting, SUDDENLY ALL THESE FOLDER PROPERTIES WINDOWS POP UP, ALL THE ONES THAT SHOULD HAVE POPPED UP HOURS AND HOURS AGO, SIMULTANEOUSLY, and without apparent provokation. Very very weird, i've never seen anything like this and I consider myself a veteran user. This startled me because I was typing into an AIM window when it happened. Oh well, at least I can view folder properties now....

OK, step away from the computer. Slowly. Whatever you do, don't startle it. 🙂
