i really really need some help here..

here's the scenario:

-running win2k pro, was copying files from one drive to another.
-blue screened during the process, "dumping physical memory"
-computer shuts down
-on restart: "inaccessible boot device"

so, i switch master/slave and boot win98.
-able to read my win2k drive
-but can't move/write files

so i switched back,
-booted to commandm prompt, ran win2k recovery console
-did emergency repair option
-restarted, win2k started!

but...

the second i tried to open a file, the damn thing crashed again. so i was back where i started. i ran the emergency repair again, but this time win2k wouldn't boot.

so i switched back to the 98 drive, and my win2k drive is full of FILE00001.CHK files! plus, a lot of files and directories are strange ASCII characters.

this is where i stand now..i wouldn't have a problem just formatting the drive and reinstalling win2k clean, but ALL my work files were on that drive. ANY chance of recovery? any ideas? better even still, any ideas as to why this happened in the first place?

help is greatly appreciated.

sounds like the file system on that partition got totally hosed. you could try norton disk doctor...

if you can still access the drive from 98, then copy the files you need to keep off of it before you do anything else. i dont mean move, i mean copy. if you can read them, you can copy them.

i assume you're running fat32 on the win2k partition...next time use NTFS and you are WAY less likely to have these problems.

i managed to copy some files to my other drive, but not everything. is there anything i can with all these CHK files? one of the most important things that i've lost is my outlook.pst file. any help would be great!
