DFI, the best there is. But it's gonna cost ya over $100.

no it wont

Lol, that's not the model I'm talking about. I am talking about the Lanparty Ultra II B. That is the best there is.

Lol, that's the model I'm talking about. The infinity overclocks just as good as the lanparty, it just doesnt look as good.

Lol, that's what doesn't matter. How it looks!

Well that depends on who you are asking. I am a performance over looks guys myself, but the UV reactanctant PCB looks pretty nice in the right setup. They both have the same OC'ing capbilities, one looks better in a mod case. For those who are asking the major differences between the two are the bundled software, (doesn't mean much) and the dual LAN capabilities of the Lanparty (hence the name). The dual Lan allows WAN and LAN at the same time, and can act as a switch as well. The Lanparty also offers RAID 1.5... which after reading the capabilities sound pretty sweet. Speed of 0 versatility of 1.

so....you now admit that the infinity is the best OCing board under 100 then?

Ya me too. I messed up and ordered the abit for 101 and had to order a passive north bridge cooler form zalman total was 106 instead of 93 which DFI would have been... hope I made good choice.

There's nothing wrong with the NF7-S. In fact it's Soundstorm certified and you can use the NVIDIA System Utility. ;)

As strange as it sounds I ordered the nf7-s only because it seems to have more caps and bigger mosfets in the picture than DFI. My EE freind said this should be better for powering and OCing.. who knows.. I really don't like the location of the power conectors and it has one of those loud 60mm fans unlike the DFI but I ordered a passive soltuion to remedy that. Another good reason is it's sheer popularity among very smart enthusiasts here.:)

I like DFI and have the Lanparty Ultra II B... what's there to admit? If it is the same BIOS and chipset revisions as the Lanparty Ultra II B it shares the crown as the best board, period.

DFI nForce2 Ultra 400 Model "NFII ULTRA INFINITY"
AMD Mobile Athlon XP 2500+ (Barton Core)
Thermalright "SLK900A" Copper Heatsink

I won't be overclocking it right away but I wanted to have the ability incase I would want to or need to in the future.

Thanks for all the advice,
Quixfire

Thats exactly what i'm running, however i got a cheaper, quieter tipped magnetic cooler instead so mine runs about 5C warmer than what you'll run. you won't be disapointed.

edit: i miss read, i have the lanparty. this forum lacks the ability to delete posts?

He has a point, the NFII Infinity is my XP board of choice. Performance is about similar to the Lanparties, but not as many cool things to bundle with it.

How ironic, I just RMA'd a DFI Ultra Infinity last week and installed my replacement NF7-S today. Right out of the box, I didn't like the placement of the socket on the DFI. Then after I installed it, I could not get it stable past 2 minutes running Prime95 with 2 sticks of 512mb memory at 200FSB, dual or single channel. This is perfectly good Mushkin Black Level 2 PC3500 memory which works great on my P4P800. Prime would work fine with one stick though.

So after some research I finally tried a beta BIOS that's only "officially" supported thru the DFI forum at amdmb.com and that fixed my Prime95 problem... or so I thought. Prime would still crap out within 40 minutes. This is with a 2500+ that would do 3200+ at stock voltage on my 8RDA+. I tried bumping the CPU voltage up to 1.8v and boosting the voltage of the DIMM and VDD but still couldn't get it Prime stable past 40 minutes. Needless to say I was pretty disppointed with the board and decided just to eat the RMA cost and pick up a NF7-S instead.

So now I've got the same exact setup except with a NF7-S and it's been purring thru Prime95 at 2.3ghz for over an hour. Of course, I may have just gotten a bum board from DFI but man, so far I have been mightily impressed with this NF7-S!

Sweet.:)

And you should'nt have to eat rma for a bad board... at least with newegg they sent me a fedex slip already filled out to return a board I ordered as long as I ordered another board as replacement... plus no restock fees.

your friggin' lucky :p

"Return Shipping Cost (The cost you pay to send an item back to Newegg.com) is the same as your cost to drive to any store for returning an item, which is not reimbursable. Thus, Newegg.com does not reimburse any customer return shipping cost."
