I loaded the VIA 4in1 drivers (Ver 4.26) off of MSI's install disk (K7T Pro2A). I rebooted, then it asked for the location of the viagart.cat file, which I couldn't find, so I skipped it. Windows 98 came up ok. Now, it won't allow me run setup again on the MSI Install disk (to add the other stuff), my system just freezes and keep trying to access the CDROM. Everything else works fine (incl CD ROM drive and MSI disk reads fine on my other PC), it just goes beserk when it tries to read the MSI disk. I looked everywhere on the Win 98SE disk for this file, I unzipped all the folders looking for it and it's not there. And I looked on the MSI disk. The only thing I see is a viagart.vxd file.
Does anyone have any ideas? I tried loading Ver 4.25a with the same issue of wanting to install this file. What is this file, anyways? If anything, could someone e-mail me the file, pretty please...... I.m desperate. I do think that this is the problem.

Thanks

One more thing...I enabled DMA when installing the drivers. Right now, I only have an Elsa Erazor II installed, nothing else. HD on primary, Toshiba DVD ROM drive on secondary. All on the master setting. Someone was kind enough to e-mail a solution that they found at viahardware.com If anyone is interested, here is the linkViagart.cat solution

OK, I don't think that the viagart.cat was the problem. I insalled VIA's 4.28 drivers and I get the same problem. Anyways, the problem seems to be that my Creative DVD 12X ROM can't run any type of setup program. I tried installing my son's I Spy School Days and the same thing happens. The Autorun feature seems not to be working and then must click the setup icon, the drives spins, tries to read for a while, then I get "This program has performed an illegal operation........". DMA is checked in DVD RoM properties. I remember when installing the 4in1 drivers, a screen came up about enabling DMA, which I checked. MSI's manual said to enable this and click it. Any questions???? The drive came with the decoder and some software. Should I go ahead and try to install the card and software? But first, I probably need to uninstall the 4in1 drivers. How do I do that? There's nothing under the Add/Remove programs. There's an ISDel.exe application in the unzipped 4.28 folder, but when I click on it nothing happens. Any ideas???

Well, I just uninstalled ATAPI Vendor Support Drivers (i.e., the DMA issue above) and now my DVD ROM works again. Can someone explain to me what these support drivers are and what they do? And why was it causing problems with my DVD ROM drive? I'm really curious and I want to learn more. Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem with the 4.25 4 in 1's and the Viagart.cat file, and ran across a thread on how to fix it. Open up the 4.25 file and go to the AGP file inside. Using WinZIP, create a ZIP file containg the Viagart.inf and the Viagart.vxd file. After you create the file, rename it to Viagart.cat and then perform the install. Seems odd to have to go through this to install these. Hope this helps.

As far as how to uninstall, just run the 4 in 1 install routine, and about halfway you will the option to install or uninstall each driver, check the appropriate box for the drivers you want to uninstall (usually all four) and that should do it.
