Update, USB-to-Parallel sucks (mostly)

I have someone who wants to pick up my Shuttle system tonight! The buyer has an old parallel scanner and parallel printer. I know the U-2-P adapter is pretty reliable for printers but how are they with scanners?
Maybe I should hold out and try to get the Shuttle PC8 parallel adapter.... 🙁 ... but he's getting ansy and wants it ASAP.

What's the track record for USB-to-Parallel? :Q :Q :Q

Good news, I found a local guy who can get me the Shuttle PC8 Parallel port by early next week. Which is very good because not only is it half the price of the USB-to-Parallel cable, but I did some preliminary research....
... and the findings are not good.

USB-to-Parallel cables are for PRINTERS ONLY. And only certain ones at that.
They *will not* work with scanners or any other parallel device.

Good thing I found that part! :Q 🙂
Now I'll recoup most of the money I spent on this Shuttle systems I barely touched and can get the pro-audio card I really need!! 😀

Sounds like you've already taken care of this deal, but with as cheap as USB scanners can be had for these days, it might actually cost more to get the USB-to-parallel adapter.

The guy seemed pretty cheezed when I called him up to ask if his printer was Parallel or USB and had to tell him the system didn't have a printer port and I would have to get him one.

I wasn't about to go and suggest he buy a new printer and scanner, though a sub-US$100 multifunction printer/scanner combo from HP at the Staples shop I work at would run circles around their current Epson 600.....
