They took the existing Influence system idea in the game and applied it to Open RVR areas. So, if you participate in RVR a lot in those areas, you can use the influence to choose various item rewards at the herald in the zone's war camp I believe.

Has WAR gotten any better? I played in the closed/open betas, and then for my "free" month after purchasing it. Promptly quit before the second month. It just still felt totally unpolished and really .. there wasn't much going on.

Also, probably the biggest change besides ORvR influence rewards is that you gian RP (TONS of it) from defending keeps. They also made modifications to the different sets.
